2 - Ancient Rome

Only by visiting the Colosseum can you visualize the many different events held there and learn everything about the construction of the building, the impressive underground structures, the seats, the spectators, the gladiators and their life, etc. Nearby, the ruins of several Imperial Forums are magnificent. The Capitoline Hill is now famous for the marvelous piazza designed by Michelangelo. 3 - Renaissance Rome

This tour gives you a glimpse of the social and religious life in Renaissance Rome, while providing you with an outline of 15th Italian architecture. The itinerary passes by several buildings dating back to the 15th and 16th century and through the narrow fascinating streets dating back to that time. The tour includes also the visit of Castel Sant’Angelo, that was one of the most important buildings in Rome. Originally constructed as an imperial mausoleum, after the fall of the Roman empire it became the fortress of the city. We will visit courtyards, bastions with ancient cannons and marble cannon balls, fascinating passageways and the sumptuous Papal apartments. 4 - Baroque Rome

Theatrical settings, fantasy, amazement and illusion: these are the keynotes of Baroque art and architecture. During this tour you will become familiar with two ingenious 17th century architects who were not only artists in their own right, but also bitter rivals: Gianlorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini. This itinerary includes some of their masterpieces: S. Carlino alle Quattro Fontane, S. Andrea al Quirinale, S. Andrea delle Fratte, S. Ivo alla Sapienza, piazza Navona. However it also includes one of the best examples of Baroque art in Rome: the Sant'Ignazio di Loyola church, which is amazing for the illusionist tecnique of the renewed frescoed ceilings. A highly-specialized itinerary, for those who have already been to Rome and for those who are particularly interested in architecture and art history. Info:

5 - The Vatican

Not only is the Vatican palace magnificent, but the collections housed inside its walls are as

important as those of the Metropolitan and the British museums. The basic 3 hour itinerary includes

the highlights of the Museum and the Sistine Chapel. In addition to this itinerary, you can choose

one or two more sections particularly important (1 hour each): a) The Raphael Rooms, the private

apartment of Pope Julius II, with the celebrated frescoes by Raphael, and the Borgia Apartment,

painted by Pinturicchio, with amazing decorations of gold leaf. b) The Art gallery (Pinacoteca): this

includes paintings by Giotto, Raphael, Leonardo Da Vinci and Caravaggio. Also on display are the

main altarpiece of the first St. Peter’s Basilica, the precious tapestries that were originally hung in

the Sistine Chapel, and many other treasures. On your request, we can add St. Peter’s Basilica and

St. Peter’s Square, too (1 hour). Please take into account that: ➡the duration of a tour is susceptible

to change according to the crowding in the museum itself, the size of the group, the interest of the

visitors, etc.; ➡the Vatican often obliges visitors to follow arbitrary itineraries, by opening some

collections and closing others, at the last moment. As a result, it is not always possible to adhere to

the itinerary and the timetable requested.
