Training Workshop, 21st November 2012: Protecting You and Your Organisation from Criminals: How to Keep your Mobile Phone and Online Activity Safe

Course Objectives:

• Deliver an understanding of emerging safety and privacy threats when using internet and new generation mobile phones & other digital devices

• Give explanations on methods used by criminals to compromise privacy and safety • Provide information enabling methods and policy for safe use of internet and mobile phones

Typically, the course will cover:

• Risks from geo-locational data: o How geo-data, which can be used to trace users of smart phones, tablets, social

networks and other forms of online communications, can be safely managed o The high risk from new generation “Social Discovery” apps

• Online social networks, social engineering & cyber-profiling: o Maintaining privacy and safety on social media o How criminals gain access to victims o Piecing together a person’s identity, behaviour and locations via open source

intelligence (OSINT) • Dangers from geotagged images, emerging technologies & mobile malware:

o The threats to the safety of the company, staff and their families o Potential to leak sensitive geo-data to competitors or criminals o How geotags can be manipulated for criminal misuse and managed safely o Understanding how handheld digital devices can be infected with malware o Overview of emerging technologies and potential threats

• Policy: o Developing an effective policy for risk mitigation, safe use of mobile phones, tablets

and online social media
