In 1976, as a university student, I began tutoring Mathematics to high school students. Fortunately, I had somevery inspirational guidance from my father, who emphasised that a good teacher must make their studentsthink for themselves. This can be done by asking a series of carefully constructed questions, rather than simplylecturing and expecting students to learn by rote.

I soon discovered that this incremental questioning technique was very effective indeed and my students wereachieving extraordinary success at school and in the HSC. As their understanding and problem-solving skillsincreased, their confidence and self-reliance grew week by week.

I started building my team of elite tutors in 1990. Since then, my team and I have spent countless thousands ofhours developing and refining our carefully structured educational materials and fine-tuning the PRIORQuestioning Technique. We have expanded our range of tuition programmes to Mathematics, English, Physicsand Chemistry and I am proud to say that our teaching methods and original resources are widely considered tobe the best of their kind in Australia.

These days I enjoy teaching more than ever! I love to share my passion for education and am personallyinvolved in selecting, training and developing my staff and aligning them with my vision. 2011 STUDENT AGREEMENT Our mission at PRIOR Education is to help you gain the knowledge, understanding, skills and confidence to achieve exceptional results in your studies. To achieve this, it is essential that you comply with the following conditions of enrolment.

Please only sign the enrolment form and proceed with your enrolment if you and your parent/guardian are seriously and totally committed to observing these conditions.

1. COMMITMENT AND COMMUNICATION

(i) I will maintain a serious commitment to my PRIOR tuition programme. I will manage my time effectively so that I fulfil my obligations to both PRIOR and school throughout the year.

(ii) I will read and be aware of the contents of The PRIOR Learning System. (iii) I will provide PRIOR with two current email addresses: my parent or guardian’s and mine. I will

inform PRIOR immediately if there are any changes to these email addresses. I will check my email at least once each week.

(iv) I will check my days and times of enrolment, rescheduling, attendance, homework status, exam results, notifications and other information by viewing my PRIOR Online Student System (POSS) record at www.prior.edu.au/student at least once each week.

(v) If there are any inaccuracies or omissions in my POSS record I will advise PRIOR immediately. (vi) I will keep my POSS password confidential. (vii) If I have any concerns about my progress, I will discuss them with my parent or guardian and

inform PRIOR immediately. (viii) If PRIOR expresses concerns about my progress, my parent or guardian and I will attend a meeting

with a PRIOR staff member at my PRIOR college.

2. ATTENDANCE

(i) I will make every effort to ensure that I attend all sessions for which I am enrolled, from the scheduled starting time until the scheduled finishing time.

(ii) If I am unable to attend a class, I will inform PRIOR at least 48 hours in advance and arrange an alternative class time, subject to availability of places. If no alternative class time is available, I may book one-on-one tuition at a cost of $60 per hour or part thereof. I will arrange to collect the notes and homework for the class and submit the homework at my next class for that tuition programme.

(iii) If I am unable to attend a workshop or exam, I will inform PRIOR at least 48 hours in advance and arrange an alternative time, subject to availability of places.

(iv) If I am unable to attend a one-on-one session, I will inform PRIOR at least 48 hours in advance. One-on-one sessions are not transferable.

3. SUBMISSION OF HOMEWORK AND EXAMS

(i) I will attempt homework at home (not at workshops) and submit it to the Class Tutor for first marking at my next class (not workshop) for that tuition programme, with all compulsory questions attempted to the best of my ability. I will also endeavour to attempt the Distinction questions.

(ii) I will sit all my PRIOR exams at PRIOR and submit them with all questions attempted to the best of my ability.

(iii) If I score less than 50% for an exam, I will re-sit it under exam conditions at PRIOR, at a time to be arranged.

(iv) If I score less than 75% for an exam re-sit, I will re-sit it under exam conditions at PRIOR and re-submit it for marking until I score 75% or more.

(v) If I am enrolled in a yearly HSC tuition programme, I will sit a series of PRIOR exams in the July school holidays and Term 3 and be subject to the submission and correction deadlines shown in my POSS record.

(vi) I will always submit original and uncopied homework and exams. (vii) I will not allow (or give the opportunity for) another student to copy my homework or exams.

4. CORRECTION OF HOMEWORK AND EXAMS

(i) After my homework or exam has been marked, I will correct as many errors as possible at home, before my workshop. I will submit my homework or exam for re-marking at my workshop and continue to correct my errors until none remain and a silver sticker has been issued. I may also submit a homework or exam for re-marking at my class.

(ii) When at least two Distinction questions on a homework have been corrected, I will receive a gold sticker.

(iii) I will correct all errors in compulsory homework questions and exams within 14 days (excluding PRIOR term breaks) after my homework or exam has been marked and returned. If necessary, I will book a temporary additional workshop (at no extra cost and subject to availability of places) to correct all errors by the deadline.

(iv) I may only attend an Exam Review class if I have sat and submitted the relevant exam. (v) I understand that the solutions to PRIOR homework and exams are exclusively for use by PRIOR

Education and will not be provided to me or my parent or guardian under any circumstances.



5. BEHAVIOUR, DEADLINES AND DISCIPLINE

(i) I will behave in a manner conducive to my learning and that of other students.

(ii) At the beginning of each PRIOR term, I will only be permitted to continue tuition in any PRIOR tuition programme if my homework and exams for all tuition programme are up-to-date. The 2011 end-of-term deadlines are: 10 April for Term 1, 3 July for Term 2, 25 September for Term 3, 18 December for Term 4.

(iii) If my child’s homework and exams are not up-to-date for all programmes by each end-of-term deadline, his or her tuition will be suspended. My child will attend at least one hour of one-on-one tuition at a cost of $65 per hour or part thereof for each overdue homework or exam to be corrected, to bring his or her homework and exams up-to-date before the beginning of the next term’s tuition. For homework or exams that are overdue for submission only, I will pay a marking fee of $20 per homework and $30 per exam. I understand that fees for one-on-one tuition and marking must be paid in advance.

(iv) If I am enrolled in a PRIOR HSC tuition programme, I will only be permitted to continue tuition in that programme if my exam submissions and corrections in the Term 3 exam programme for that tuition programme are up-to-date.

(v) I will only be permitted to commence tuition in 2012 if my 2011 homework and exams are up-to-date for all tuition programmes by the Term 4 deadline.

(vi) If my homework and exams are not up-to-date for all tuition programmes by the Term 4 deadline, I may: (a) book one-on-one tuition to bring my 2011 homework and exams up-to-date before the commencement of my 2012 tuition, at a cost of $65 per hour or part thereof, or (b) discontinue my 2012 enrolment, and Clause 6 (iii) of the 2011 Parent Guardian Agreement will apply.

(vii) If I am found to have copied on a homework or exam, or have allowed (or given the opportunity for) another student to copy my work, my tuition may be discontinued for all PRIOR tuition programmes.

6. PROGRAMME TRANSFER AND DISCONTINUATION

(i) If I wish to transfer my enrolment from one PRIOR tuition programme to another or cancel or discontinue my enrolment in a tuition programme, my parent or guardian will lodge a written, dated and signed notification with PRIOR. I will be considered to be enrolled in the original tuition programme until such notification is received by PRIOR.

(ii) Other conditions regarding programme transfer and discontinuation are included in the 2011 Parent/Guardian Agreement.

7. THE 2011 PRIOR CELEBRATION (i) To qualify for the 2011 PRIOR Celebration on Friday 2 December, my Reward Status on Sunday 16

October 2011 must be at least 90% for all PRIOR tuition programmes I have attended in 2011, except those English programmes which comprise one-on-one tuition exclusively.

(ii) I will earn PRIOR Reward Points for each of my PRIOR tuition programmes as follows: (a) two points for submitting a homework or exam, attempted to the best of my ability; (b) two points for correcting a homework or exam to the satisfaction of my tutor; (c) one Distinction Point for attempting and correcting at least two full Distinction questions in a homework (d) one Distinction Point for scoring at least 50% on the first attempt of an exam or at least 75% on a subsequent attempt.

(iii) My Reward Status is the number of points I have earned divided by the number of possible points, expressed as a percentage.

(iv) To qualify for a special prize I must: (a) have a Reward Status of 100% and have attempted and corrected all Distinction questions for all tuition programmes attended in 2011, by Sunday 16 October 2011; (b) have scored, for every exam, at least 75% on the first attempt or at least 90% on a subsequent attempt, by Sunday 16 October 2011; (c) attend the PRIOR Celebration on Friday 2 December 2011.

8. OTHER CONDITIONS OF ENROLMENT

(i) My enrolment is only secured when full fees have been paid and the enrolment form has been signed by my parent or guardian and me and returned to PRIOR.

(ii) All materials produced by PRIOR are protected by copyright and I will not reproduce these materials electronically or by any other means.

(iii) PRIOR reserves the right to cancel or change tuition programmes, schedules, teachers and tutors at any time.

(iv) PRIOR reserves the right to vary the conditions of the Student and Parent/Guardian Agreements at any time and without notice. The current agreements can be viewed at www.prior.edu.au/student.

(i) If I wish to transfer my child’s enrolment from one yearly tuition programme to another or cancel or discontinue my child’s enrolment in a yearly tuition programme, I will lodge a written, dated and signed notification with PRIOR. My child will be considered to be enrolled in the original tuition programme until such notification is received by PRIOR.

(ii) If I wish to transfer my child’s enrolment from one yearly tuition programme to another, I will receive credit for any unused portion of fees paid for the original tuition programme. For the new tuition programme, I will be charged fees at the current rate (less the discount in dollars applied to the original tuition programme, if any) and an administration fee of 5% of the fees paid for the original tuition programme will be charged.

(iii) If I wish to cancel or discontinue my child’s enrolment in a yearly tuition programme at any time from the date of payment of fees up to 14 days from the commencement of his or her tuition: (a) I may receive a credit note for the unused portion of fees paid, less an administration fee of 10% of the fees paid for that tuition programme. (b) Alternatively, I may receive a refund of the unused portion of fees paid, less an administration fee of 15% of the fees paid for that tuition programme.

(iv) If I wish to discontinue my child’s enrolment in a yearly tuition programme after 14 days from the commencement of his or her tuition, there is no refund of fees. I will receive a credit note for the unused portion of fees paid, less an administration fee of 20% of the fees paid for that tuition programme.

(v) A credit note may be used in the future as full or part-payment of fees for my child’s enrolment in another tuition programme, or it may be transferred to another student.

(vi) If my child’s enrolment in a yearly tuition programme is discontinued by PRIOR, Clause 6 (iii) or (iv) will apply.


7. THE 2011 PRIOR CELEBRATION (i) To qualify for the 2011 PRIOR Celebration, my child’s Reward Status on Sunday 16 October must

be at least 90% for all yearly tuition programmes he or she has attended in 2011, except those English programmes which comprise one-on-one tuition exclusively.

(ii) My child will earn PRIOR Reward Points for each of his or her yearly tuition programmes as follows: (a) two points for submitting a homework or exam, attempted to the best of his or her ability; (b) two points for correcting a homework or exam to the satisfaction of his or her tutor; (c) one Distinction Point for attempting and correcting at least two full Distinction questions in a homework (d) one Distinction Point for scoring at least 50% on the first attempt of an exam or at least 75% on a subsequent attempt.

(iii) My child’s Reward Status is the number of points he or she has earned divided by the number of possible points, expressed as a percentage.

(iv) To qualify for a special prize my child must: (a) have a Reward Status of 100% and have attempted and corrected all Distinction questions for all yearly tuition programmes attended in 2011, by Sunday 16 October 2011; (b) have scored, for every exam, at least 75% on the first attempt or at least 90% on a subsequent attempt, by Sunday 16 October 2011; (c) attend the 2011 PRIOR Celebration.

8. GOODWILL DEPOSIT (i) If my child is enrolled in a yearly tuition programme, I will pay a Goodwill Deposit of $300 at the time

of my child’s enrolment. (ii) For each booked workshop from which my child is absent with less than 48 hours’ notice under any

circumstances, $25 will be deducted from my Goodwill Deposit. (iii) $100 of my Goodwill Deposit will be refunded if my child attends the PRIOR Celebration, or if I notify

PRIOR in writing between Monday 10 and Sunday 16 October 2011 that my child will not be attending. Attendance at the PRIOR Celebration is subject to the conditions specified in Section 7.

(iv) If my child is enrolled in a Year 10 or Preliminary tuition programme, I will inform PRIOR of his or her yearly results. $100 of my Goodwill Deposit will be refunded if I inform PRIOR of my child’s results by 31 December 2011.

(v) If my child is enrolled in a yearly HSC tuition programme, I will inform PRIOR of his or her HSC results and ATAR. $100 of my Goodwill Deposit will be refunded if I inform PRIOR of my child’sresults by 31 December 2011.

(vi) Any balance remaining on my Goodwill Deposit on 31 December 2011 will be refunded to me by 31 January 2012.

9. OTHER CONDITIONS OF ENROLMENT

(i) My child’s enrolment is only secured when full fees have been paid and the enrolment form has been signed by my child and me and returned to PRIOR.

(ii) I understand that PRIOR fees are not negotiable. (iii) I will not be entitled to a credit or refund for any booked sessions from which my child is absent. (iv) I indemnify PRIOR against any liability regarding my child’s academic results. (v) I authorise PRIOR to take and use my child’s photograph and quote my child’s name and results for

advertising purposes. (vi) All materials produced by PRIOR are protected by copyright and I will not reproduce these materials

electronically or by any other means. (vii) PRIOR reserves the right to cancel or change tuition programmes, schedules, teachers and tutors at

any time. (viii) PRIOR reserves the right to vary the conditions of the Student and Parent/Guardian Agreements at
