This text is placed properly within the safe area and won’t be trimmed off.

This text is NOT placed properly within the safe area, even though it is within trim size

(red), and likely will be trimmed off.

Trim SizeThe The red area represents the finished size of your project. For example, if you selected 8.5” by 11” as your finished size, that’s what this red area should be set to.

Image ResolutionThe photo of the sunset is too low resolution (notice how

fuzzy it appears compared to the photo of the flower). While it can be printed, it will appear blurry.

Safe Area or MarginDue Due to normal manufacturing variances, avoid

placing important text or images too close to the edge of the trim size area. We recommend

insetting your content 0.25” to 0.5,” which is represented by the dashed line. Anything closer

to the edge could be trimmed off.

BleedBleed should be 0.125” on all four sides of your files if you want to print all the way to the edge fo the paper.

TTo calculate the size your design needs to be with bleeds, add 0.25” to both the width and height. For example, for an 8.5” by 11” project, your orange area should be 8.75” by 11.25” (since 8.5+0.25=8.75 and 11+0.25=11.25).

Your background design or color should extend completely into the area represented by this orange color.

HHowever, most of orange area will be trimmed off, so important text or graphics should not be placed in this area (see “Safe Area” box at right).

In the flower photo above, the image has been properly set up for bleed because it extends completely into the orange area. On the finished printed piece, the image will extend all the way to the edge of the sheet.

The image of the sunset, meaThe image of the sunset, meanwhile, is not placed properly for full bleed. It only reaches the edge of the red area and not into the orange area. If printed, this would likely have a sliver of white along the right edge of sheet.
