Construction of Equipment and Maintenance Building a Goal in 2012

Pastor Bob H. West Retires

In 2005, plans were announced to construct a new equipment, maintenance and storage building to replace the early 1900s barn that once stabled horses that worked the grounds.

While not viewed from the grounds of the cemetery, the aged barn no longer met the need for security and proper care of the cemetery equipment. The barn has been removed and portable trailers were rented for safe storage of cemetery equipment.

The construction site is presently being cleared, with the goal of completing the building during 2012. The 2,000 square foot facility will safely house trucks, tractors, lawnmowers, and graveside equipment including tents, chairs and ground covers.

Bob H. West, General Manager of Fair View Cemetery, has retired from full time responsibilities after 25 years of dedicated service. Prior to serving as General Manager, he was Director of Family Services.

An ordained minister, Bob is a familiar face to those who have benefited from his caring counsel. He assisted families in decisions relating to arrangements, burial lots and memorial markers. He worked with funeral homes in scheduling funerals and was in attendance at most burials.

Bob will continue to spend a few hours a week at the Fair View Cemetery office and remains a member of the Board of Directors of F.V. Cemetery Company, Inc.

We extend grateful appreciation to Pastor West for his years of devotion to hundreds of families and his work to preserve and enhanced Historic Fair View Cemetery.

We extend appreciation to those who have sent contributions specifically for this much-needed project. Fundraising efforts will continue and added to the funds earmarked for the new building. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution, please call 540.344.4263.

The Fair View Group recently added two Family Service Counselors, Beverly Hatim and Dennis Yeatts, to the staff serving both Fair View Cemetery and Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

“Serving families at their time of need is a comforting and rewarding experience”, reflected Mike Bratcher, Director of Operations and Sales.

In the days following the service, a counselor offers a condolence visit to ensure needs have been met and all concerns satisfied. Arrangements may be made at that time for selecting a memorial marker.

One of the most important roles is working with pre-need arrangements to lessen the burden at the stressful time when a loved one has passed away. They are also contacting lot owners to ensure that family relationships and pre-need arrangements are updated and documented.
