Oil Spill Collection from Open WatersOil collection boom and at least one additional boat is needed:

1. Spill Collection Boat (SCB): Removes the oil from water by pumping or paddle system and processes it then to marketable oil

2. Oil Boom Moving Boat (OBMB): This can be a tug or any powerboat capable of pulling the oil boom to form a circle around the oil spill and maneuvering the back and forth attachments together with SCB

3. Supply Boat (SB): offers supply materials, chemicals and transportation between the shore and the SCB

4. Oil Transportation Boat (OTB): In case of large spills this serves as transport bridge between the shore and the SCB

Operating ProcessThe cleaning begins. The spill collection boom is lifted ( red ) between two rotating low pressure rollers attached to the SCB stern as shown here. One set of rollers is on each side of SCB and float on the ocean surface. The OBMB starts then pulling the boom around the oil spill.

Operating ProcessThe cleaning begins. The OBMB pulls the boom to form a large loop around the spill and brings the boom then back to SCB on the other side in stern. The boom is now lifted between the two rotating rollers (boom in red). When done, the OMBM starts pulling the boom to circle another section in the oil spill returning the boom end to the opposite side of the SCB stern.

Operating ProcessThe cleaning begins. When this second loop is forming the original loop gets smaller bringing the spilled oil inside the loop to SCB stern and is then removed by pump or other lifting system. When all oil is removed the original end of the boom is lifted from between the two rollers and let loose and the other end extending from the OBMB boat is now lifted between the rollers on the OBMB side of the SCB (both in red). The boom circling cycle is then repeated as many times as oil is found on the water.
