Week 1B 1.5.2018 Principal's Report
Welcome back to Term 2. I trust the break was great for your children to rest, recover from a busy Term 1 and
reenergise for the term ahead.
The Term 2 season in the Riverina gradually shifts from the gorgeous days we have been having to cold nights
and early morning frosts. At the moment, your kids may well want a jacket in the morning and will come home in
shirtsleeves. A great teaching opportunity to remember to bring home their jackets. Students can choose to
wear summer or winter uniform for the next few weeks although they will need to be in full winter
uniform for our Photo Days on May 10 and 11.
Last week, groups of student leaders, cadets, scouts and others joined the ANZAC day marches. They were
respectful and enthusiastic. I love that our students see this day as an important part of our culture. Thank you
for your support and participation during the day. We will be a having our own ANZAC service this Wednesday
at 10:50am. Thank you to the defence force personnel and others that will be assisting.
Our secondary athletics carnival is going to be held this coming Friday 4 May. Students and staff will
travel to Jubilee Park for the day. You are very welcome to join us. Here is a link to the letter with details of the
day’s events. If your child requires bus transport, please return the form by 9:00am Thursday 3 May.
We are blessed with gifted and committed tradespeople who assist us in
maintaining our facilities. Over the break, we established a new operable wall
between two class rooms and the replacement of gutters on A and D Blocks.
Thank you also to our amazing cleaning and maintenance staff who worked
tirelessly to maintain the College over the break.
A number of our students attended the Scripture Union Fishing and
Diving camp and the Soul Survivor camp over the break. I’ve heard great
things about these camps and the encouragement they were to our students.
Have a wonderful week,
Mr Hugh MacCallum, Principal

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We are seeking a volunteer to drive 6 students to and from the Riding For Disabled Stables.
Drivers must be available each Tuesday between the hours of 11am and 1pm, Terms 2 to 4. The vehicle is a 12 seater mini bus and
only requires a standard driving licence. Volunteers will need to provide a Working With
Children Check.
Learning Support staff member, Mr Shane Ceccato, would love to hear from you as soon
as possible. Contact the College Office to apply. Your help would be much appreciated.
COLLEGE PHOTO DAYS Thursday 10 May (Whole School) and Friday 11 May
(Preschool) 2018 are our WWCC Photo Days.
Envelopes were sent home with instructions on the first day of Term 2, here is a link to the letter. Please see this link to MSP for more details of what is included in
each pack.
All students will have their photo taken in order to update their student files.
Please send students to school in their full WWCC winter uniform. This means long-sleeved College shirts for both girls and boys, and ties for boys. Our
uniform guidelines can be found in the Student Diary or via this link. As many students do not own a College woollen jumper, all students will be photographed in class groups without jumpers. For individual photos,
students may wear their jumper if parents prefer.
JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS
Welcome to Term 2, we look forward to a new term with plenty of exciting events coming up. College photos will
be next Thursday 10 May. Please ensure your child is in full winter uniform, neat and tidy. This includes
a tie for the boys and a white College blouse for the girls, not a skivvy. Here is a link to our Uniform List.
Year 3 will be participating in the NAPLAN numeracy and literacy tests from the 15 to 17 May, in Week 3.
Mrs Joiner and Mrs Tasker have been working through some practice tests in class with
the students so they are familiar with the format and conditions of the tests. These tests
only provide a snapshot of a student’s academic achievement and should not be a
cause of stress or anxiety. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you have any
concerns.
Our Mother’s Day stall will be on Friday 11 May. Students will be taken in the
morning by their teachers to visit the stall with an option to purchase gifts ranging from $1-$10. If you would
prefer your child not to be carrying money, please place it in a clearly labelled envelope to be handed to their
classroom teacher. Our stall provides a lovely opportunity to buy for grandmas and nannas.
This term, beginning in Week 2, our students in Years 1 – 4 will be participating in tennis workshops as part
of our PD/Health/PE program. This means that students will be required to wear their sports uniforms on the
following days:
1/2S - Mondays and Thursdays
1/2B - Mondays and Thursdays
1/2J - Mondays and Thursdays
3J - Mondays and Wednesdays
3T - Mondays and Tuesdays
4F - Mondays and Wednesdays
4C - Mondays only
Just a reminder that during Terms 2 and 3, our Monday morning merit assemblies have
been moved to 3:00pm due to the colder weather. Our first Junior School parent assembly
of the term will be held in Week 6 on Friday 8 June at 2:30pm. 4C will be performing their
item.
A date for the diary - our Kindergarten 2019 information night is on Tuesday 22 May
from 5:45-6:15pm. Please invite any families interested in enrolling their students in Kindergarten next
year. It will be a great opportunity to meet the Kindergarten teachers, learn about our programs, network with
families and visit the classrooms.
As always, please feel free to come and see me if you have any concerns regarding your child. I strongly
encourage communication between school and home to ensure a successful partnership between us.
Have a wonderful first week of term,
Mrs Jane Greenlees, Head of Junior School
Coles Sports for Schools
Thank you so much to everyone who participated in
the Sports for Schools campaign! We have now
collected your vouchers and sent them away. We are not collecting any more vouchers this
term. Stay posted to hear how you have helped the College.
Thank you for your help,
Mrs Rosie Anderson
Annabelle Wilkinson, Year 9, has returned from the National Ten Pin
Bowling Championships in Melbourne. Each player enters their event
twice and Annabelle bowled so well in her singles that she gained both
first and second position by a considerable margin. Wow, how amazing
is that!
Jones Russell, Year 4, who competed
with enthusiasm at the PSSA Primary
competition, the highest level for his
age group, winning his heat and
placing 9th in the final. A fantastic
result.
Paige Pfeiffer, Year 11, is the silver
medalist at State Gymnastics Level
10 competition.
Stephen and Alison Gilmour and boys
on the safe and happy arrival of Hope
Elspeth.
SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS
TAS Canoe Build Excursion
Three Year 11 students Calvin Combs, Sean
Wilson and Matilda Gyles participated in the
Novice Canoe Build at the Classic and Wooden
Boat Festival at Darling Harbour during the school
holidays. Accompanied by Mr David Crick, Mr
Trevor Gyles and Mrs Joy Gyles, students
travelled to Sydney on the final day of Term 1.
After a day of workshops, the TAS students
successfully made a leak-proof canoe and won
the canoe race. Take a look at our Facebook page
to see a video of the harbor race here.
“I really enjoyed my time at the Canoe Build
trip! It was interesting and different to learn
about how canoes and boats are built. I feel
that I gained new skills from the weekend. It
was amazing to stay overnight on the tall ship, it was an unforgettable experience!
I am proud of how we worked as a team to win the race. I’m also keen to see this program continue for other
students and to share the skills I’ve leaned.”
Matilda Gyles, Year 11
SPORT REPORT
Welcome to Term 2! This Friday 4 May is our Year 7 to 12 Athletics Carnival. We will be spending the day at
Jubilee Park and you are welcome to join us for all or part of the day.
Here is a link to the letter we sent home. If your child requires bus transport, please return the attached form by
9:00am Thursday 3 May. We are looking forward to a fantastic day of healthy competition!
The NSW Office of Sport is working
with sporting organisations across
NSW to remind spectators that the
focus of junior sport should always
be fun, through the Shoosh for Kids campaign. The
Shoosh for Kids Awareness Week is coming up soon, 14
- 20 May 2018. We think this is a wonderful initiative and
look forward to promoting this initiative. If you are
involved in a local sport group and would like more
information on the campaign, follow this link. Below are
some helpful tips for engaging in sport with your children.
Together let’s keep kids playing and enjoying sport.
The NSW Government is helping kids get active with the
new Active Kids program. From 31 January 2018,
parents, guardians and carers can apply for a $100
voucher per calendar year for each student enrolled in
school. The voucher may be used with a registered
activity provider for registration, participation and
membership costs for sport, fitness and active recreation
activities. For more information, follow this link.
Have a great week,
Mr Timothy Bacon

WAGGA WAGGA COMMUNITY NEWS
Downside Bush Dance Sat 5 May, Sat 2 Jun, Sat 7 Jul, Sat 4 Aug, Sat 1 Sep, Sat 6 Oct, Sat 3 Nov, Sat 1 Dec 2018 Time: 7.30pm to midnight Cost: Adults $4, Children gold coin Location: Downside Hall, off Coolamon Road, via Wagga Wagga Contact: David Dunbar on 0427 042 686 Somewhere between Wagga Wagga and Coolamon in the south-west of New South Wales is arguably one of the best preserved old-time community halls in the state. Everything is in good working order; the dance floor is sound, the acoustics and lighting is just right and when the monthly bush dance is in full swing, a very precious part of Australia's history comes to life with an atmosphere non-existent in larger metropolitan areas.
A great time for the whole family and just 20 minutes out of Wagga! Come and enjoy a night of music and dancing at the Downside hall every month (except January).
We are looking for Year 1 and 2 girls who are
interested in playing Indoor Netball, at Wagga
Indoor Sports Centre on Friday afternoons.
Registration is $20 and then $4/week payable at
the Centre. Season starts in the first week of
Term 2 and finishes at the end of Term 3.
We are also looking for parents to assist with
teams and a Team Manager.
