This term is a busy term for teachers as they are getting to knowtheir children, and busily setting up class rules and routines. Many classes over the next weeks will also be having parentinformation sessions relating to their class or activities plannedthis term.

Children’s LunchesChildren’s Lunches

When preparing your child’s lunch pleaseensure the packaging being used is able tobe opened by your child. This is especiallyrelevant for our younger children in Prep toyear 2. If the container is too hard to openor presents sharp edges when opened we

would ask that you repack it into a more child friendlypackaging.

School Crossings and ParkingSchool Crossings and Parking

Parents and careers arereminded to bring theirchildren across thepedestrian crossings. Stopat the yellow line and wait for the whistle to cross, as cuttingacross the car park is a dangerous practice. All of ourcrossings are supervised by trained staff.

Please also be considerate when parking. Parking in bus zones,no standing and too close to pedestrian crossings is illegal.

The Earnshaw Street entrance is only to be used by staff for carparking during the hours of 8am to 4pm. Parents may accessthis entry for pedestrian use only during these hours.

Behaviour Matrix was established to outline expectedbehaviours in various areas of the school. This document ispredominantly used in the upper school to explicitly teach howour four school rules should be enacted in various locationsthroughout the school.

Families can assist their children by reviewing the transitionstatements for entering and leaving the school grounds. The ‘I’

statements throughout are underpinned by appropriate socialetiquette and manners.

Welcome back everyone to the first Newsletter for the 2021school year. It is great to see the new classes in class, asopposed to on paper and I am sure that this year will continueto see not just the educational growth of your children but theirpersonal growth as well.

For those new to the school, my name is Mark Windsor and I

am starting my 5th year at Golden Beach SSas Deputy Principal. I like to maintain a highlevel of visibility around the school and I amregularly in classes and on duty at lunchtimes and I firmly believe that positiverelationships are the foundation forsuccessful schooling.

If you would like to see me, please call or seethe ladies at the front office. A few short messages below:

Year 4-6 StaffingYear 4-6 Staffing

This year we welcome Mrs Adamson who is joining the year 5team. The year 5 team is our biggest year level in the schoolwith 5 classes. Also joining the year 5 team is Mr Box who hascome down from year 6. Welcome Mrs Adamson and Mr Boxto your new roles.

Parent Information SessionsParent Information Sessions

These will commence in week 3 and conclude in week 4. Allyear levels will be having information sessions, a great chancefor you to meet your child’s teacher and learn a little bit aboutwhat your child will be learning across the year. Please note, these are not parent teacher interviews, these will be conductedtowards the end of this term.

Parent CommunicationParent Communication

We are currently working to put togetherthe class email lists. Some teachers havealready made contact with you via emailor if they are using Seesaw. At GoldenBeach SS we regularly communicatewith you as parents and it is vital that your

contact details, phone numbers and email addresses are allup-to-date.

Social Media is another platform that the school uses andwe currently have our own Facebook page which you canfollow simply by searching for Golden Beach SS. We also haveour own YouTube channel which can be found by followingthis link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBgHPGF6T9pZa2CDDtyKWoQ

iPad TrialiPad Trial

This year we have four classesacross the school trialling 1-1iPad’s. We have one class inyear 1, 4, 5 and 6 year levelstrialling iPad’s. The trial will runfor the whole year and it isimportant to note that thecurriculum in each of the trial

classes will not change to the other classes in that cohort. Atthis point, the focus of the trial is identifying what parts of thecurriculum can be completed with an iPad rather than booksand pencils.

Handwriting is still part of the curriculum and this will continuewith the trial classes as well.

When studentsarrive, they are to remain inthe undercover area (tuckshop) until the 8.30am bell and thenmove to classroom areas. Classroom doors will usually open at8.45am for students to prepare for the day.

It’s a new school year with lots of exciting activities and eventson the calendar. Welcome back all Golden Beach State Schoolstudents and families, and a special warm welcome to all ournew Prep families and also those families who started with us in2021!

What is the Chaplaincy service at Golden Beach? What is the Chaplaincy service at Golden Beach?

I believe it’s best described by this parent’s quote: “Life canbe tough! Financial pressure, relationship issues, personalitydifficulties……and it’s even harder when it affects our children!Chappy Col is a wonderful mentor and friend to children fromall walks of life that are facing some of these challenges andmore. He teaches all of our children the skills to gain strengthand resilience to overcome these struggles.”

A bit more information: Children in your local school communityface a myriad of challenges in their day to day life that havevery little to do with education. They’re struggling with issuesof self-doubt, bullying, peer pressure, anxiety, family breakdownand more. These are the leading reasons why children seek

out the help of their school chaplain. Chaplains like ours areon the frontlines of our schools championing the cause of ourchildren’s social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Who helps the Chaplaincy service at Golden Beach?Who helps the Chaplaincy service at Golden Beach?

We have a Local Chaplaincy Committee who helps makedecisions, assists in fundraising (to maintain the chaplaincyhours at Golden Beach – 2.5 days per week) and runs events, such as the fortnightly morning breakfasts (will hopefullycommence soon). Mr Mark Windsor, one of the DeputyPrincipals, is the Line Manager and Chair of the committee.

Can you help?Can you help?

As we look ahead to 2021, Chaplaincy at Golden Beach willneed newnew committeecommittee membersmembers. Notes will be sent home laterthis term requesting help at fundraising events, breakfasts andthe Local Chaplaincy Committee. In the meantime, if you’d liketo find out more about our team, please contact Chappy formore information. Email [email protected]

Breakfasts in 2021:Breakfasts in 2021:

Please watch this space about our very popularbreakfasts on fortnightly Friday mornings, i.e.Week 3, 5, etc. Send your children to havesome cereal or a delicious slice of toast, and bepart of an event where we build school connectedness andcommunity spirit, while feeding hungry tummies at the sametime!

Until next time!
