Principal’s Message October 1, 2014 Feeling grateful! Last Friday’s 5 th grade movie night was a success! The 5 th graders earned over $1000 to go toward science camp, and it was great to see so many families come and participate in the bake sale, dinner and of course, Lego Movie. Everything was awesome! I am especially grateful for the crew who helped me wrangle the video and sound system – Jimmy Patrick, Jason Crutch9ield, Peter Bins. Without their help, we would have been out of luck! I am also feeling grateful for Hoda Hakimi, Deborah Johnson, Angie Staggs, David Jackson, and Heather Stinger who have volunteered for yard duty and are doing a great job of helping supervise and support our students. It isn’t the most glamorous job, but it is a daily need and I really appreciate their willingness to get involved. Please forgive me if I have neglected to mention you! Speaking of parent volunteers…we have many parents and community members at Lex who are working to improve our school, fundraise, support students, and provide services for our school community. All of this happens because people volunteer. I admire the time people donate to the school, and the efforts made to support us. If you are approached by a parent volunteer requesting information or participation in a fundraiser or school organization, please respect the fact that they are volunteering their time to help us. Kindness and understanding go a long way toward building community. Immigration Day is tomorrow for our 5 th graders, and should be a day full of interesting reenactments, food to share, costumes, and storytelling! This will be a full day event, and we are looking forward to i! Thank you! Valerie RoyalteyQuandt IB Corner: In our continuing effort to share information about our wonderful new school and International Baccalaureate program, I will be starting to give monthly tours to parents and community members interested in learning more about us! Our Xirst Principal’s Coffee and Lex Tour will be next Friday morning (October 10) starting at 8:15am. We will meet for coffee and introductions, and then I will offer a school tour for anyone who is interested! We will be promoting these tours in various ways to the Los Gatos community, and prospective parents will have the opportunity to meet Home and School Club members, the school team, and me. Oct. 23rd will be our Xirst International Baccalaureate Parent Information Night. New Lex parents are speciXically invited to attend, in order to learn more about the great IB Primary Years Programme we have here. But all parents are welcome to refresh their knowledge and review the program with us.

Noticias' - News from Spanish Class

This week the fifth graders have finished writing short skits in Spanish about coming to America to coordinate with their IB unit on migration.  This is a good chance for them to review basic greetings and words describing feelings.  They also can imagine being an immigrant and reflect on why people immigrate to other countries. We will videotape them within a few weeks, and have these available during conferences.  I have some costumes but students are encouraged to bring some from home if possible.  The children are excited and coming up with great ideas!   Muy bien, niños!

Reminders from the office!

It is a Professional Development day for all
