PRESENTATION NIGHT Once again we are getting ready for our celebrations at the end of the year. This year the theme of our night is ‘One Hit Wonders’.
This is always a great night and I am looking forward to seeing our community join with us as we bring 2017 to an end.
Attendance For a child to have good attendance they need to
attend school 90% of the time. This means missing
less than one day per fortnight.
Remember that if your child is absent from school a
reason needs to be provided using either the SMS
system on 0417 930 832, contacting the Front Office
or talking with your child’s teacher.
The end of term is often a time where the
connections with peers are made stronger due to the
preparation for Presentation Night and other
celebrations. There is also the completion of
teaching and learning programs to add to your child’s
report. We encourage every family to keeps habits of
coming to school every day, even in Term 4.

PLANNING FOR 2018
I am currently working on the school structure for
2018. This process will continue for the remainder of
the year. Please inform our School Office if your
child/ren will NOT be remaining with us for 2018.
Due to distribution of student numbers, there will be
some multi-age classes; this could include a PP/1
class. If you have additional information which would
assist the school when making up class lists you are
welcome to submit a request in writing to the
Principal by Friday November 24th. Please mark any
requests ‘Private and Confidential.’ Please note that
there is no guarantee that requests will be met and
requests to have a particular teacher will not be
accepted. All classes are subject to change at any
time, due to fluctuations in enrolments. However, the
school endeavours to do its best to plan carefully
with the information available.

EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AND LEARNING
YEAR 6 HIGH SCHOOL TRANSITION
Our Year 6 students have already attended their first
three days of transition. This initiative is supported
by the strong Karratha School’s Network. Students
have the opportunity to attend subject specific
classes, get to know staff and learn how to navigate
around the environment. The canteen has been its
usual hit! Once again all reports back to me are
highly positive about the Pegs Creek representation.
I thank Mrs Kristy Fitzpatrick and Miss Amanda
Oakley for their support and organisation to ensure
the students access everything they need to make
transition a positive experience.
MAYOR VISIT The Year 3 & 4 students were excited to have a visit
from the City of Karratha Mayor, Mr Peter Long, on
Tuesday. The students have been studying the role
and purpose of local government in HaSS classes
(Humanities and Social Sciences), and Mr Long
gave us some great insights into what the City of
Karratha does, as well as the best, worst and most
interesting aspects of working in local government.
We are very greatful for the experience and look
forward to our visit from the police in Week 6.
YEAR 5/6 DAMPIER EXCURSION
On Friday 27 October the Year 5 and 6’s went on a
fishing excursion to Dampier. It was kicked off with a
talk from the fisheries who discussed the importance
of fish size and bag limits. We then found our
competitive streak in a sandcastle building
competition. The winners building a fantastic model
of a mermaid. Second place was a model of Mrs
Fitz’s boat and the infamous Unicorn Whale. After
lunch came the reason we were there. To catch fish!
There were some maintenance issues and devices
that had to be altered, but we prevailed! 1 crab, 2
stingrays and 2 shovel nose sharks later and we
were ready to call it a day. Well done to all the year
5/6s who worked hard to design and build their
fishing device. They saw that persistence and
dedications pays off. Thank you to our amazing
parent helpers Tamara and Jarrad, the day wouldn’t
have been as fun without you there!
Some quotes for the year 5s:
Dillon TA10 “I didn’t think we would catch anything.”
Jaiden TA11 “It was actually really fun!”
Senya TA10 “I didn’t expect to be able to catch
anything and my group caught a stingray and a
shovel nose!”
Noah TA10 “I got to hold a shovel nose shark that
Cahn, Arriyan and I caught.”

SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
LEADERSHIP
NATIONAL SCHOOLS OPINIONS SURVEYS At Peg’s Creek Primary School we are continually
reviewing our performance and processes. Providing
a sound educational program takes teamwork and
that team is made up of staff, students, parents and
the community. Thank you to those parents, staff and
students from Year 4-6 who recently completed our
National Opinion Surveys. Results have been
reported to the School Board and will be reported in
our Annual School Report.
CYCLONE SAFETY
The Bureau of Meteorology and Emergency Services
held an information meeting for all Principals’ at the
Pilbara Education Regional Office last month. Their
message was very clear and strong in that
communities need to be prepared for the upcoming
Cyclone Season. The Bureau needs all communities
to take notice of Severe Weather Warnings as much
as Cyclone warnings. Communities need to read and
understand and act on all alerts. Please take note of
our Cyclone processes distributed with this
newsletter.
BIKE SAFETY
If your child is riding to school, please ensure they
have a helmet and a lock for their bike. We have
noticed quite a few that haven’t been locked and
would hate for anything to happen to them.
SCHOOL BOUNDARY GATES
For safety reasons we will be locking the Baywiew
Road entry school gates at 9.00am each morning.
Any parents wishing to enter the school can gain
access at the Galbraith Road entrance. The gates will
be unlocked again at 2.00pm each afternoon.
2018 STUDENT LEADERSHIP
I have spoken to students in Years 3, 4 and 5 last
week to encourage them to nominate and begin
preparing their speeches if they would like to be part
of the student leadership in our school. Our student
leaders are an important voice and they have an
essential role to play in ensuring our school remains
student focussed. I invite parents to be part of this
process. Our elections will be held on Tuesday 21
November in the Library.

EDITION 11 – 2 November 2017
BOARD OPEN MEETING
We will be holding an Open Community Board
Meeting on November 28. All members of our
community are invited to attend this public meeting.
The meeting will be held in the Staffroom starting at
7.00pm. Our Chairman Mr John Lally will be
resigning from his position at the end of the year, this
meeting will be an opportunity for our school to thank
him for his service to our school community.
We are seeking nominations from our school
community to fill any Parent or Community positions
which could become vacant at our next meeting.
Please contact me so that I can support you to
discuss requirements of the positions and complete
a nomination form for you
.
FeNaCLING FLOAT PRIZE
We were very proud to receive a cheque from
Horizon Power for $1500.00 earlier this week for our
first place in the FeNACLING Float Parade 2017.
Our P&C were very much part of this community
success.
P&C
I would like to take this opportunity to formally thank
our amazing P&C and in particular Mrs Natalie
Richards for her successful application in the Robin
Bromley Visionary Grant. Our P&C were awarded
$1000.00. I believe this money will be spent on a
counter top fridge. Congratulations!
