I would like to thank all of the P&C volunteers over the year for their contributions to the school. This school can not operate without their support. I would also like to acknowledge the work that Selina Kohlhagen has made over the years as a P & C Secretary and member. With her youngest child about to start Year 7 in 2017, we wish her and her family all the best and will miss having her on the team. Working with Children Check - Statutory Declarations All volunteers to the school are asked to sign a Statutory Declaration to enable them to work with children under the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012. This applies to canteen volunteers, parents transporting students to sporting events and volunteers helping out in classrooms. Signed Declarations and 100 points of identification can be completed at the office at any time. Please note that these documents remain confidential and are kept by the school for 7 years as part of the Department of Education’s Working with Children Check (WWCC) policy and procedures. WAW Caring about Road Safety (CARS) Poster Competition: Some students entered this competition recently and one of the students has been awarded second place. Representatives from WAW and the NSW Police would like to make a presentation to the school of a cheque and acknowledge the efforts of the students who entered. This will take place on Wednesday the 7th of December at 12.30pm, with parents invited to come along. A highway patrol car will be made available for the students to view. Captain and Prefect Speeches and Voting for 2017 Leaders It is an exciting time for our Year 5 students who will begin preparing a short speech to present to the school stating their suitability for the position of school captain in 2017. After speaking with the P&C, I would like to survey the entire parent community for their thoughts on whether or not the school would like a boy and a girl captain or whether 2 captains are elected regardless of their gender. With a very small number of students in each grade, I personally believe that all students should have an equal chance to be elected based on their leadership capabilities. When there is a situation, such as in 2016 where there was one Year 6 boy and three Year 6 girls, the boy has a 100% chance of being captain and the girls have a 33% chance. I would ask that parents fill in the survey question attached and return it to the office before Friday 25th November so that I can let the Year 5 students know the outcome. All Year 6 students will be recognised as Prefects next year and will be given leadership roles each week. Upcoming Events: Monday - 28th November: Final Kinder Orientation Creative Catchment Kids book launch. Thursday 1 st December 10.00am, parents welcome. Billabong HS Orientation Day, Tuesday 6 th December. Phegan Family

It’s not very often that five members of the one family are at primary school together, but this week we had that pleasure with Jess, Tilly, Bill and Emily Phegan welcoming youngest sister Adelaide to Kinder Orientation.

Thank you to everyone who attended last nights P&C Meeting. As this was our last meeting for 2016, on behalf of the P&C committee we would like to thank everyone that has helped during this year. Your contribution to the P&C is very much appreciated. Also we say Goodbye to Selina who was our P&C Secretary for 8 years, and also Secretary for the School’s 125th year celebration. Selina worked tirelessly in moving our School forward, often going above the call of her position on the P&C. We thank you Selina, and we hope to see you around our School from time to time.

We are once again doing the Hamper Raffle, that gets drawn at the School Presentation Night. Could every family please bring an item in for the Hamper, eg decorations, gifts, gardens items or food items, please be mindful when bringing food items that they haven’t passed their use-by date. You can drop the items into the box at the front office. Shelley Schilg
