Principal’s Message Dear Parents/Caregivers, I hope you are all handling the cold, damp mornings and keeping away from the many viruses and illnesses this time of year can bring. Eating healthy, exercising and staying warm will certainly help in that regard. District Cross Country Our school cross country squad enjoyed a very successful day at the District Cross Country championships last Friday. South students were very impressive in the way in which they competed, giving it their best shot, whilst also being mindful to display good sportsmanship. Special congratulations to: Bella Hillier (1st), Saska Malin (4th), Winnie Thomson (1st), Matilda Whittakers (3rd), Bentley Hardman (2nd), Chase Bartlett (4th), Dexter Hardman (2nd) and Tanaka Maunganidze (3rd), who have qualified for the Riverina Cross Country Championships in Gundagai on the 13 th June. A big thank you to Mr Morris for organising the South team. EnviroMentors This Thursday 6 th June, students in K-2 will be involved in EnviroMentors workshops, being delivered by a representative from Keep NSW Beautiful. These workshops will focus on the environmental practices of recycling, composting and general sustainability. Times: 9.15am - 10am Kinder Astronauts 10.10am - 10.45am K/1 NASA 11.30am - 12.15 1/2 Apollo 12.15 - 1.00pm 2 Rockets Musical Programs This term, Mr Bodey from South West Music has continued to provide weekly tuition to the students from 4 Armstrong. Each week the students have been increasing in skill level and confidence. Each Friday Brett Allitt, also from South West Music has been working with a number of students re-establishing the South School Band. The students meet for 45 minutes during lunch on a Friday, to work with Mr Allitt honing their skills in performance. We look forward to the opportunity to witness both these musical groups, at one of our assemblies in the near future. New Students On behalf of the school community, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Olivia Cooper and Owen Gilpen, who began at South last Thursday. Olivia has joined Mrs Champness in 5 Milky Way and Owen has joined Mr Fajks in 3/4Tranquility. We know that these students will enjoy their time here at South. Winter Uniform Just a reminder that black shorts and black tracksuit pants are NOT part of our school uniform. Attached to this week’s newsletter is a guide regarding our uniform requirements for both summer and winter uniform. Deniliquin South Public school was established in 1956. This was the year that the Olympic Games were held in Melbourne. Our uniform of green and gold was chosen because of the games and it is such a privilege for our students to be able to wear our country’s official colours. Thank you for your support with regard to this matter. Friday Assembly There will be No formal Assemblies this Friday. Our next assembly will be next Friday 14 th June. Netball Our school netball team competed against Edward PS today, in Round 1 of the State PSSA Netball Knockout competition. The girls played an incredible game taking the win 26-6. Big thank you, to Miss Liefting and Mrs Honey for their organisation and coaching of the team in the lead up to Round 1. Pop Up Uniform Shop A pop up uniform shop will be held today, Tuesday 4th June in the front office foyer from 2.45pm to 3.15pm. PSSA Soccer Knockout Deniliquin South boys and girls soccer teams, played Deniliquin North in the PSSA soccer knockout, last Thursday, at Rotary Park. The girls team won their match 9 goals to 0. All players contributed to a fine team effort, supporting and encouraging each other throughout the match. Goal scorers were, Sophie Tilders, Caitlyn Saunders, Emma Parks and Jerrah Caruso. The girls next match will be a home game against Finley PS, in the next two weeks. The boys team went down to Deniliquin North, 4 goals to 2. The team played very well at times, but were not able to take advantage of a number of goal scoring opportunities. Deagan Purcell, scored the first goal of the match, and Baxter Cowley scored a goal in the second half, from a penalty. Congratulations to both teams on their sportsmanship. Thank you to the mums and dads, who provided transport and sideline support on the day. Tony Lockett Our Tony Lockett school team will compete in a Gala Day, this Friday the 7th June, against Tocumwal, Barooga, Finley and Moama. Team: Luke Holloway, Austin Armytage, Brody Wills, Blake Marshall, Jack Hussey, Rylan Wade, Jerrah Caruso, Curtis Foran, Baxter Cowley, Andrew Croker, Brooklyn Barnes, Jordan Stafford, Jack Van Leishout, Deagan Purcell, Dexter Hardman, Ben Hayes, Will

Basketball Good luck to our Boys and Girls Basketball teams who are playing Edward Public School this Thursday at the Basketball Stadium. Games start at 11.00am. All welcome to come and cheer the teams on.
