Volume 4, I ssue 3
Greetings Parents and Students~
I would like to take this moment to wish you a Happy
Holidays and Happy New Year! The first semester is
now over! This is our second year that the semester
ended before the start of the holiday break. I believe
that when we look at how our student’s performed,
indications show that ending the semester before the
holidays was beneficial! The final graduation rate for
the Class of 2018 was 84.16% (an increase of 7.8%
from the prior year). Breaking the 80% graduation
rate was a first for Desert Pines High School and sets
the bar for future graduating classes. The feedback
we have received from parents and students has been
positive and we look forward to hearing from you
regarding the changed schedule and anything we can
do to improve Desert Pines High School.
As the holidays approach us, I would like to take a
moment to thank our staff, students, parents, and
community partners for making the holiday season
great for so many students. For the fifth year, our
Student Council spearheaded “Wishmas” at Desert
Pines High School. “Wishmas” provides an
opportunity for students to share their wishes for the
holidays and this year was another major success in
fulfilling students’ wishes. From gift cards to clothes
and sneakers, to computers and phones, “Wishmas”
was a hit. For four straight years, Rack Room Shoes
has partnered with us to provide over $1300.00 in
shoes and sneakers to fulfill student wishes. This is
another example of how our school and our
community consistently support our students in such
a positive way! We have arrived at the halfway point in
our school year. Semester II will begin January 7th,
2019; this allows for a fresh start and a new
beginning. It is important for students to stay
focused on succeeding in school, as the end of the

Parents, we can’t thank you enough for your
