KINDERGARTEN GREETINGS PARENTS: What’s  happening  in  the  Kindergarten  world  this  month?    We  started  off  the  month  with  our  field  trip  to  Butterfly  World  in  which  the  students  very  much  enjoyed  learning  about  and  looking  at  many  types  of  butterflies.    One  participant  group  was  even  recognized  for  very  positive  behavior  and  respect  from  the  tour  guides  at  the  facility.    Next,  we  all  enjoyed  celebrating  our  100th  day  of  school!    Students  were  involved  with  different  projects  and  activities  celebrating  their  100th  day  of  school  and  all  that  they  have  learned  so  far.      In  regards  to  Math,  students  will  be  able  to  represent,  count,  and  write  numbers  to  20  and  beyond.  In  regards  to  Reading,  students  will  be  able  to  recognize  many  sight  words,  begin  to  become  emergent  readers  with  purpose,  and  be  able  to  blend  and  read  CVC  words.  In  regards  to  Social  Studies,  students  will  be  able  to  recognize  changes  over  time,  the  presidency,  and  good  citizenship.  In  regards  to  Science,  students  will  be  able  to  recognize  the  ways  things  move  and  the  five  senses.  We  anticipate  the  2nd  half  of  the  school  year  to  be  even  more  challenging  as  students  continue  to  push  their  brains  to  the  limit  and  make  smart  choices  in  all  that  they  do.    Student  growth  has  been  noticeable  thus  far  and  will  continue  to  be  noticeable  into  the  remaining  months  of  school.

FIRST GRADE GREETINGS PARENTS: First  grade  is  springing  full  STREAM  ahead.    Wow!  It's  already  March.  Time  is  flying  and  we  are  making  great  strides  in  our  learning.    We  are  proud  of  our  students  for  tackling  writing  this  semester.    As  a  team  we  worked  with  instructional  coaches  to  ensure  we  have  a  quality  writing  plan  in  place.  We  are  using  the  students  work  to  guide  our  discussions  and  teaching  plans.  We  are  proud  of  our  students  progress  and  know  they  will  only  continue  to  become  stronger.    Great  readers  are  great  writers;  so  we  continue  to  build  reading  skills.  We  have  been  looking  at  two  different  non-‐fiction  texts  to  use  our  skills  of  comparing  and  contrasting  information.    We  will  continue  to  work  on  digging  into  text  to  find  details  to  show  what  we  know.    In  math  we  are  finishing  up  our  unit  on  building  numbers  and  helping  to  give  us  a foundation of place value by adding and subtracting two digit numbers with a variety of strategies. Soon we will begin to work on measuring with standard and non-standard units of measurement. Happy Spring!

FOURTH GRADE GREETINGS PARENTS: 4th  grade  is  springin’  into  FSA!  We  just  checked  writing  off  of  our  list  not  too  long  ago.  We  are  still  tackling  crunch  time  for  ELA  and  Math!  We  would  like  to  extend  a  thank  you  out  to  our  curriculum  team  and  everyone  else  who  has  been  helping  us  out  with  testing.  Although  we  are  done  teaching  our  ELA  standards  for  the  first  time,  we  are  spiraling  what  our  students  need  that  extra  boost  with.  Math  is  still  underway  with  new  material.  Our  students  are  excited  about  decimals  and  geometry.  They  are  also  breezing  right  into  measurement.  The  big  assessment  is  getting  closer  and  we  are  preparing!  Wish  us  luck!

THIRD GRADE GREETINGS PARENTS: Students  are  working  hard  in  3rd  Grade!    Students  have  been  doing  their  best  on  the  BSA  assessment  for  Reading  and  Math.      In  reading,  students  will  be  reviewing  skills  that  have  been  taught,  as  we  are  in  crunch  time  for  the  FSA.    In  math,  students  will  be  working  on  comparing  fractions.  Also,  students  should  be  studying  or  reviewing  their  multiplication  facts  (0-‐9)  in  preparation  for  fourth  grade.  We  have  an  awesome  field  trip  to  the  Science  &  Discovery  Museum  on  February  17th,  2017  where  students  will  learn  and  have  fun  at  the  same.  Thanks for your support!

SECOND GRADE GREETINGS PARENTS: It  is  hard  to  believe  the  third  quarter  is  almost  completed.    With  that  said,  March  is  packed  with  new  units  of  study  and  increasing  expectations  of  our  students.  This  is  the  time  of  year  where  the  pace  of  our  curriculum  picks  up  requiring  good  listening  skills  and  greater  independence.  It’s  an  exciting  time  for  us  because  we  witness  daily  accomplishments.    Your  second  grader  has  been  working  hard  on  a  variety  of  reading  comprehension  strategies!  We  have  been  learning  how  readers  can  compare  two  or  more  versions  of  the  same  story  by  different  authors  for  literary  passages  and  the  most  important  point  in  informational  passages.  We  have  just  wrapped  up  addition  and  subtraction  with  2-‐digit  and  3-‐digit  numbers.  We  will  be  moving  on  to  lessons  involving  money  and  time.  Students  will  be  able  to  solve  word  problems  involving  dollar  bills,  quarters,  dimes,  nickels,  and  pennies.  Instruction  in  the  beginning  of  the  month  will  focus  on  telling  time.  Students  will  also  be  expected  to  tell  time  on  analog  and  digital  clocks  in  5-‐minute  intervals.  Once  again,  thank  you  for  all  of  your  support!!!

FIFTH GRADE

GREETINGS PARENTS: 5th grade has finished writing and were focusing our extra time on ELA, Math, and Science. In ELA were spiraling back and remediating on the standards where our students showed the least proficiency on the BSA. Math we are finishing up with the last couple of standards then we will be able to review in order to ensure our students show gains on the FSA. Science is a favorite of ours and our students our continuously showing improvement on the topics that we are covering. 5th grade will continue all of our hard work to make sure our students reach Destination Success on the FSA. As always, 5th grade thanks you for your continued support with your child’s educationJ
