We are guided by catholic Gospel teachings of Jesus Christ, in partnership with parents, caregivers, parish and the wider community. Our school is dedicated to fostering life-long learning through educational excellence encapsulating the spiritual, cognitive, emotional, social and physical development of the child. Principal’s Message Dear Parents and Caregivers of Good Shepherd Catholic School It is hard to believe that we are only a week away from the end of semester one. I am sure I am telling you nothing that you already don’t know when I say that this first semester has been one like no other. COVID-19 has changed the way that we do things with the potential for this to continue. On Monday of this week the Premier announced that as of Saturday 27 th June, we will enter Phase 4 of the road map to recovery. We are still waiting for confirmation of what this means at a school level and I was hoping that Catholic Education WA will have provided that information however, this has not been the case. Therefore, until I can inform families of what changes will be made, we will continue with our current restrictions until further notice. I would like to thank all our families for their patience, understanding and cooperation during this time. On Monday of next week (29 th July) you will have access to your child’s report (students from Pre-primary to Year 6). This report will be a little different to what is usually distributed at this time due to COVID-19 and the time that many of our students spent away from school. No child will receive an A-E grade in their report. They will receive an effort grade. Teachers will make comment on their achievements during this period. Parents who wish to discuss their child’s progress will be given an opportunity to do so in Week One of Term 3. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher to organise a mutually agreeable time. It is important that parents and caregivers make regular contact with their child’s teacher to ensure that they are fully aware of their progress. Thank you to the many parents and caregivers who follow our car park rules. Thank you to those who are courteous of other drivers and are aware of the rules of drive through and drive around the block, sometimes 3 times, without complaining. The staff that are on duty really appreciate this. There are still a minority of families who insist on not following rules which ultimately puts student lives in danger. We have a designated pedestrian crossing that is clearly signposted and is managed by a staff member both in the morning and afternoon. Despite this, we still have people crossing the drive through in unauthorised areas. Earlier this week we had a very close encounter whereby a child only just missed being hit by a car. This could have been a very nasty accident and those who witnessed it were very distressed. Please do not cross the driveway other than by the designated crossing because that is where drivers are expecting people to cross. Please do not park at the priest’s house because it is dangerous to cross the road there. Although some of these things can be inconvenient ultimately, they keep our children safe from harm. I would also remind you that if you need to get out of your car in the drop off/pickup zone, please park in a designated carpark bay. Thank you to all our families for your assistance and cooperation. Mark Powell Principal

Science News

Towards the end of last year our school applied for funding for our new Science room. The project was to help furbish the old DOTT room to make it more suitable for a specialty Science area. The funding for the project was recommended to the Government by the Cowan LSCF advisory committee, chaired by Dr Anne Aly MP. The committee worked very hard in assessing and selecting the most competitive applications to recommend for funding – the amount of funding sought in Cowan was over three times the amount available, and accordingly the evaluation process was a very rigorous one. We are delighted to announce that the funding for our project has been approved! Our Science room now has brand new equipment for all areas of Science and STEM as well as much needed storage. We look forward to Dr Anne Aly MP visiting our school later this year to see how our funding has been used.

New SEQTA Accounts A welcome email has been sent to all the email address that are listed with each family on our schools data base. Please be sure to check junk mail folders in case it is delivered there and notify the school if you do not receive it. The welcome email was sent on Monday the 22nd of June.

Your welcome email includes a link to a website that looks like the following where you will be instructed to create an account. This will link directly with your child/ren. Please ensure you keep these details as you will need to sign in with them to access reports.

I LOVE MUM STALL

It was all big smiles this week when our children were selecting that special gift for their beloved Mum at the I Love Mum Stall.

With so much to choose from, it was an exciting day for our wonderful children and for this we thank Rebecca D’Andrea and Jessica Heketa who worked tirelessly in purchasing such a great variety of gifts.

To the volunteers who helped wrap all the gifts – Thank you! A special mention to Claudine Panaiia who donated her time in making all the colourful bows which adorned all the gifts, thank you very much.

Our special Mums, you are loved, admired, and very much appreciated for all you do, and we hope that you LOVE your gift!
