Week 5A 27.2.2018 Principal’s Report
It is such a privilege to be part of a fine local community! Our annual Commissioning Service last week was such an encouraging service. Staff, student leaders and Board members all made commitments to the health and wellbeing of our College. We committed to being faithful and to living out the College vision. Lieutenant Kara Hartley gave us a stirring, entertaining talk on her own experiences of running the race. Lt Hartley is Wagga’s newly appointed Salvation Army Pastor, as well as a new member of the College community, and it was a pleasure learning about her Christian journey. You can find part of her talk on our College Facebook page. Taking time to invest in others’ lives is just as important as striving to meet your own goals.
Likewise, the CSSA Zone Swimming Carnival last Friday was a great success! Families from Christian Schools in Denilquin, Orange, Dubbo, Wellington, Narromine and Wee Waa travelled huge distances to compete at Wagga. The atmosphere was friendly and well organised. Records were broken, personal best times were improved and many students progressed on to the State CSSA Swimming Carnival. Students and staff from Orange and Dubbo Christian Schools stayed at the College on Thursday night. On Friday morning, a group of wonderful parents and students cooked and provided breakfast for the visitors. Many people came to tell me how much they appreciated the organisation, the generous welcome and catering and the level of competition! Thank you to all who were involved with this event.
On Saturday Student Leaders joined other local school representatives, officials and volunteers at the Peace Day Ceremony. Dr Ray King, the international founder of the Peace City movement, said that “peace is much more than the absence of war”. He went on to share that peace is about people who are connected, protected and respected. We promote cities of peace when we intentionally make time and room for each other and we can have respectful conversations about the things we agree and disagree about. You can find part of the speech delivered by our Student Leaders Karabella Cattanach and Nicolaas Van Honk on our College Facebook page.
Our Cattle Team have returned from the Canberra Show victorious and excited at the experience. We will publish a full report next week, congratulations to the team!
The Baptist Church Monster Garage Sale on Saturday was a huge success. Hundreds of people volunteered and donated goods, even more people attended, purchased great bargains and enjoyed the morning. In doing so the money raised will support scripture programs in NSW public schools as well as 101.9 Wagga’s Life FM radio station. Both the scripture programs and Life FM are wonderful vehicles for sharing the Gospel; I am proud to see them supported by our community. Here is a link to the Daily Advertiser’s article.
This Wednesday the College Board has its first meeting of 2018. Your prayers for all who are part of these meetings is valued and necessary.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
Thank you to those parents that attended the Commissioning Service last Thursday. It was a great chance for the College community to gather together and commit ourselves, and the year ahead, to God. It was wonderful to see so many Middle School Students have put their hand up to assist in the various leadership groups.
The Stage 3 Assembly is on this Tuesday 27 February at 2:40pm in the TLA. This week, 5/6J are running the assembly. The students work very hard to put together their items and an encouraging audience is always appreciated, so please join us if you are available.
Last Friday a number of Middle School Students competed in the CSSA Zone Swimming Carnival at the Oasis Aquatic Centre. All competitors swam to the best of their ability and we saw some excellent results. A number of students achieved personal bests, broke records and have qualified for the CSSA State Swimming Carnival on Monday 26 March. Congratulations to all the students who attended!
Stage 3 have had a busy start to the year with the Life Education Van visiting during Week 3. Life Education teacher Ms Paula Tooth said that the students behaved well and participated positively in the sessions. She also commented that she enjoyed chatting with some of our older students who popped in to say hello to her and Healthy Harold. Last week Stage 4 began their I-XL classes. It is exciting to have different options available this year and we are looking forward to seeing what they can achieve. One new inclusion is a Music elective with Mr Xeros. Students in this elective are going to learn the ukulele, their excitement was evident as they unpacked them for the first time! This week we have a number of sport teams going out to represent the College. Soccer Gala Days for Stage 2 and 3 boys and girls are on Thursday 1 March and Friday 2 March. We also have mixed teams at the Netball Gala Day on Thursday 1 March and Friday 2 March with teams representing Stage 3 and 4. In addition to Netball and Soccer, a number of our sudents play basketball in the weekly local competition. It is great to see our students taking advantage of all the sporting opportunities provided. Year 7 have immunisations this Thursday 1 March, during the morning. All of the forms should have been returned to the College. We have been asked to remind all students to ensure that they have had breakfast that morning. Please note the Due Dates below for Stage 4 and encourage your children to be organised early. If they have any concerns they should speak to their teachers as soon as possible. Have a great week, Heather Mansley Head of Middle School

Preschool has been a hive of activity during the past couple of weeks! Last week we learned about travel, with Students learning how to categorize different modes of transportation. We had a lot of fun learning about planes and also got to ride a very bumpy train with Mrs Nechvatal in the playground. This week Students are acting as explorers and will build on previous lessons as they learn about different types of adventures, while developing their literacy and numeracy skills along the way. Our Preschool Staff would like to remind all families to take the time to sign your child in and out of the service each day. This is important as we work to ensure your accounts are charged correctly, and to provide accurate information for your Centrelink rebates. Thank you for partner with us in this. Have a wonderful week, The Preschool Team
It was encouraging to see so many of our students helping out at the Baptist Church’s Monster Garage Sale on
the weekend, and in the days leading up to the event. We had students helping set up and pack up, washing
cars, entertaining by providing music and serving coffee.
While the main purpose of this event is to raise funds for Scripture teaching in our public schools and Wagga’s
Life FM Radio Station, it is also an amazing opportunity to connect people from various church congregations
around Wagga. When students from our school volunteer their own time and
energy, working alongside others from local churches, this helps to build
community, encourage and develop a mindset of service. Congratulations to all
those who got involved and a very big ‘Thank You’!
