As with all terms this year, many of the acvies of previous years did not take place. Even with the current restricons, through determinaon and creavity some events and celebraons were able to be held. Two very important dates on the church calendar were celebrated differently during the term. These are the Mary MacKillop Feast Day and the Feast of The Assumpon. The liturgies were developed with each school stage aending separately. These important days were thoughully prepared and celebrated. Other special events: - FathersDay Week. It was a privilege to be able to organise giſts for our fathers. The children enjoyed being able to select their giſts. It is hoped these small giſts added to a special weekend for all our fathers and their families on the first weekend in September. - Mini-Fete. Year Six students and staff are outstanding in their efforts and creavity to organise this special event towards the end of Term Three. All staff and students are looking forward to enjoying themselves tomorrow. There will be no slices and cakes which should mean that all of us will be coming home healthier than previous years, with less sugar circulang through our bodies. - End-of-Term Fun Day. On Friday of this week a fun dayis being organised to celebrate the end of the term. Students will be able to wear casual clothes which must be appropriate for disco and sporng acvies. Acvies that the children will rotate through are disco, sport and a video session. If the weather intervenes the day will sll happen with a few small adjustments. Sport finds a place within the school each term: - Gymnascs. This is an outstanding acvity for the students. This term the Kinder – Year Two students travelled to PCYC and used all the excellent equipment. The instructors were able to both explain and movate the students. Definitely something that will be applied for again in future years. - Chess: While there are no chess compeons against other schools, Mr Windsor was sll able to organise chess sessions every Monday and school championships. The students aending love the challenge, compeon and camaraderie developed. - Friday Robocs. Every Friday, Mrs Smith and her well -organised student leaders prepare the library for robocs sessions. These acvies are great for our creave thinkers, developing new strategies and challenges weekly. Cultural moments in Term Three: - Dance Performances Mrs Brown was able to organise all grades to present well -scripted and choreographed performances. While the audiences were small, usually one other grade, the students thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of geng beer each week and presenng a quality performance. - Vising Shows. While these have stopped this year, a group called In The Zonedeveloped a performance that was presented for free via Zoom. The students enjoyed this special treat. The students are encouraged to have a super holiday before returning to do their very best in their class work and school acvies next term. Go for Gold

Assumption 2020 Theme ‘Keep trying, Keep reaching, Keep dreaming’

Dear Parents, School Holidays At the end of this week the students and staff commence a two-week break before returning to school on Monday, 12th October. As with all terms this year, many of the activities of previous years did not take place. Even with the current restrictions, through determination and creativity some events and celebrations were able to be held. Keeping Our Students Safe The following practices are continuing:

Each day we strive to keep all staff and students as safe as we can whilst at school. Many daily hygienic practices have become second nature to us due to COVID-19. Here are a few of the safe practices Assumption has implement-ed. Washing of hands before entering and upon exit of classrooms by all staff and students

All door handles and railings are cleaned

Toilets are cleaned during the day and again at night

Desks wiped with an antibacterial safe cleaning product

Library books wiped upon return

No home readers sent home to eliminate the spread of germs

Seating and eating areas cleaned

Sanitiser and antibacterial hand soap available in every classroom including the library, music and drama rooms and learning support areas

Playground items such as soccer balls, basketballs and footballs are cleaned

Safety & Hygiene

Vigilance in ensuring that staff and students do not attend school or work if they are unwell.

Students absent or sent home due to flu like symptoms need to be tested for COVID-19.

Staff and students must not return to school or work until they return a negative COVID-19 re-sult and are symptoms free.

Schools must sight the negative COVID-19 test result prior to allowing students and staff to return to school.

Mrs Catherine Connor REC

Sunday, 27th September 2020: Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time—Year A Mt 21:28 -32 He went out moved by regret.

Gospel Reflection This Sunday’s gospel asks us to turn our lives around and follow God's word. A big ask for any of us! Jesus is teaching us an important lesson. To do that, he told a story about two sons. This gospel story also asks us to be genuine in our response, that is, our actions will be show us that we live as followers of Christ. Gospel Challenge One way that our children can do this is by trying to think about what other people want, rather than just what they want. As parents, you can help by your example. The old saying is ‘Actions speak louder than words’.

Diocesan Year 6 RE Assessment Year 6 students recently participated in the Bathurst Diocesan Religious Education Assessment. Our students joined Year Six students in all Bathurst Diocesan schools for this assessment. Congratulations to our Year Six students on the excellent results that they achieved. We received notification late last week of their achievements in the CEDB Year 6 Religious Education Assessment. Assumption School students achieved the following certificates:

6 High Distinctions, 17 Distinctions, 34 Credits and 3 Participation.

The Sacramental Program 2020 During Term 3 information has been sent home with regards to the procedures for the Sacramental Programme in 2020. You will need to go through the Cathedral Presbytery Office 6331 3066, as they are organising the time schedules for the Penance and Holy Communion masses. To assist the school in knowing when your child is receiving the sacrament of Penance or making their First Holy Communion please contact the school via email ([email protected]) or phone 6331 3444 to inform us of the details. We continue to pray for the students and their families at this time. Cathedral Parish Bulletin - https://www.cathedralparish.org.au/wp-content/uploads/files/bulletin.pdf Prayers and Reflections during the COVID-19 time The early Christians prayed in the church of the home. Once more, in troubled times when public worship has to be restricted, we are called to pray in “the domestic church”, always aware of the promise of Jesus, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them.”—Matthew 18:20

God of all life… Br Michael Herry fms

May your love and light shine in and through me today In a way that no mask can hide. May my eyes dance with the laughter and joy Replacing my hidden smile. May my actions of care and concern Speak louder than my muffled voice ever could. And may the generosity of my heart Radiate out through who I am And how I respond to the world around me So that others may not see my mask But your image shining out Moving in and through me today. Amen

Thank you to all students, teachers and parents for their meaningful input into the faith life of the Assumption School in Term 3. May the blessings of Christ be with you as you enjoy a restful holiday.
