GRIMSHAW PUBLIC SCHOOL IS A SAFE AND CARING MEMBER OF THE PEACE RIVER SCHOOL DIVISION FAMILY. Principals Message: Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful break and everyone is well rested and ready to resume studies this January. We capped off 2017 with a wonderful Christmas concert. I was very happy with holding the concert in the field house, as it allowed for many more guests then we normally had in our old gymnasium at Kennedy Elementary School. We also felt that our sound quality was beer in our new facility. The new school gives us many more op- ons for Christmas Concerts, because of its larger stage and our older students that can assist with musical accom- paniment. Ms. McCue was able to capitalize on these two features for this year s performance, and I thought she did an amazing job pung on our first Christmas Concert in Grimshaw Public School. This January our Senior High Students are finishing the first semester and are wring their final exams. These ex- ams are a culminaon of their enre courses and they will need to study very hard to be prepared for them. We can also assist these students with their exams by being extra quiet as we move from class to class and to different acvies in the school during exam me. Final Exams will be held from January 22 to January 30 th . Parents and guardians this new year is a perfect me for you to come out and support the school council. The coun- cil has merged from two exisng school councils from Kennedy Elementary School and Grimshaw High School. The GPS School Council will work on solidifying new and exisng tradions that will be important to students. They will support the school in an advisory posion on maers of importance, for instance they are working with PRSD com- municaons specialist Vanessa Burns to create a survey on what are the best forms of communicaon to reach par- ents. Meengs are generally held on the first Monday of the month at 7 P.M. Please contact the office if you would like more informaon on joining school council or speak to me personally. Finally, parents please be on the look out for the Alberta School Survey they come through the mail in the months of January and February. This survey means a lot to the school as we value your feedback, and we believe we have had an excellent start in our new school. These surveys generally come to parents with students in grades 4, 7, and 10 but have been known to come to other grades as well. They come with a prepaid envelope for you to mail it back to the government when you are finished filling it in. The survey can be confusing and somemes the ques- ons seem like they are not directed at your childs grade level, please do not answer I dont know’. This response will give the school a negave result on the survey. If you have any quesons regarding the survey please come into the office and I will be able to give you the informaon you will require to answer the survey appropriately. Take care, Adam Murray

Principal’s Message:

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful break and everyone is well rested and ready to resume studies

this January.

We capped off 2017 with a wonderful Christmas concert. I was very happy with holding the concert in the field

house, as it allowed for many more guests then we normally had in our old gymnasium at Kennedy Elementary

School. We also felt that our sound quality was better in our new facility. The new school gives us many more op-

tions for Christmas Concerts, because of its larger stage and our older students that can assist with musical accom-

paniment. Ms. McCue was able to capitalize on these two features for this year’s performance, and I thought she

did an amazing job putting on our first Christmas Concert in Grimshaw Public School.

This January our Senior High Students are finishing the first semester and are writing their final exams. These ex-

ams are a culmination of their entire courses and they will need to study very hard to be prepared for them. We

can also assist these students with their exams by being extra quiet as we move from class to class and to different

activities in the school during exam time. Final Exams will be held from January 22 to January 30th.

Parents and guardians this new year is a perfect time for you to come out and support the school council. The coun-

cil has merged from two existing school councils from Kennedy Elementary School and Grimshaw High School. The

GPS School Council will work on solidifying new and existing traditions that will be important to students. They will

support the school in an advisory position on matters of importance, for instance they are working with PRSD com-

munications specialist Vanessa Burns to create a survey on what are the best forms of communication to reach par-

ents. Meetings are generally held on the first Monday of the month at 7 P.M. Please contact the office if you would

like more information on joining school council or speak to me personally.

Finally, parents please be on the look out for the Alberta School Survey they come through the mail in the months of

January and February. This survey means a lot to the school as we value your feedback, and we believe we have

had an excellent start in our new school. These surveys generally come to parents with students in grades 4, 7, and

10 but have been known to come to other grades as well. They come with a prepaid envelope for you to mail it

back to the government when you are finished filling it in. The survey can be confusing and sometimes the ques-

tions seem like they are not directed at your child’s grade level, please do not answer ‘I don’t know’. This response

will give the school a negative result on the survey. If you have any questions regarding the survey please come into

the office and I will be able to give you the information you will require to answer the survey appropriately.

Take care,

Adam Murray

There was lots of excitement at Grimshaw Public during the month of December, here are just a few re-

minders of what went on.

Superintendent’s Message

Parents: Have a Voice in Education

In January and February many parents will receive a survey in their mailbox from Alberta Education. Please take a few moments to complete this survey - your participation is very important to us. The responses collected in the survey are provided to and reviewed by all school staff, the board of trustees and the Alberta Government so that we can learn what is working in schools and what needs improvement. Your answers to the questions in the survey will be considered in school and divisional planning and therefore will have a direct im-pact on your child’s educational experience. This important annual survey provides you with another way to be in-volved in decision making at your child’s school. The survey is mailed to parents in grades 4, 7 and 10 (unless the school has fewer than 120 students in grades 4-12 in which case the survey will be expanded to include all students and parents). To ensure we receive as many re-sponses back from parents as possible, the survey comes with a postage paid return envelope. Thank you in advance for your time spent in completing the survey. Through working and learning together, your input and involvement makes our schools great places to grow, learn and be. Paul Bennett

From the Office

Please remember to call the office if your child is going to be absent. The teachers only have the ability to en-

ter absent or late into the classroom attendance. Maplewood grabs the students who are marked absent by

9:15 am to make those phone calls in the morning. We try hard to enter all the late students before this time,

but the office can get busy. We apologize for the phone calls that go home when your student is late, or if you

had already contacted the teachers.

For the Elementary Students, there will be a form coming home today to sign-up and order what your child

would like to eat for lunch for the next 3 weeks. This is for the free nutritional meal supplied by C-Kens. This

will be delivered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday every week. There will still be the Hot Lunch that you

have purchased through the Parent Society on Wednesdays. This form needs to be returned by WEDNESDAY

JANUARY 10TH.

There is a Grimshaw Public School Council Meeting tonight at 7pm at the school. The agenda can be viewed

on the Grimshaw Public website or on the Grimshaw Public Facebook Page.
