Principal: Mr Stuart Wylie 29th July 2019 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Welcome back to Term 3, I would like to welcome all of our students and their families back to school for Term 3. I hope that all families enjoyed the winter holiday period. We have welcomed a few new families to our school this term and I hope that our new students enjoy their time at Thornton PS and settle quickly into the school’s routines and activities. Our school Aerobics Team have been successful in making the National Finals again this year. With only one stu- dent left from last year’s team which won the National Title our 2019 team of girls have done a fabulous job in coming second in the NSW Championships in their first year of Aerobics. A very excited team of girls are heading to Queensland in Week 3 to compete against Australia’s best. Thank you to Miss Emily Gibbs for training the girls and helping them achieve this amazing feat. Thanks also to our fabulous P&C committee who are donating $100 to each of the girls to help with costs. Good luck girls. Week 3 is Education Week and we have a full program of events planned to highlight and celebrate our students, staff and school. We have our annual book fair running through the week, open day on Tuesday and we also have Grandparents day on Thursday. This is an excellent opportunity for family members to get involved with our school and be involved in your child’s education. We hope you are able to come along and join in the fun. In 2019 we are celebrating Thornton Public School’s one hundredth birthday. That’s right our school has been de- livering quality public education for families and their children living in Thornton for 100 years. We will be celebrat- ing in Week 4, Term 4 with a variety of events which will include open days and a huge birthday party on Friday 8 th of November. If you are an ex student, parent or teacher that has been involved with the school we would love you to come along and get involved. We would also love any old photos or items related to the school so that we can set up a display. Further information about our events will be advertised on our website, Facebook and in our newsletter. If you have any items for our display please drop them into the office during school hours or contact Yvonne Fletcher on 4964 1369. Safe Travel to School - A reminder that children are permitted to ride their bicycles to school and that when doing so they must observe the road rules and must wear a helmet. Children who ride scooters or skateboards to school must also adhere to road rules and wear protective equipment. Students are not permitted to ride bikes, skateboards or scooters inside the school grounds and they should not be ridden on the footpath outside the front of the school as this area can be very busy and someone could be injured. They should also dismount and walk across the pedestrian crossing. Please discuss these very important safety warnings with your child if they ride to school Enrolments 2019 - We are currently accepting kindergarten enrolments for 2020 and our fabulous Tadpoles pro- gram is up and running again this term to support our 2020 Kinders. Please make sure you get your enrolment pa- pers in as soon as possible so we can start organising our class groups and have everything organised to make sure your child’s first days at Thornton PS are happy and successful. Also if you know of anyone who intends to enrol their child in kindergarten at TPS next year who is not currently involved with the school encourage them to con- tact the office. If you have a school-aged child who will start kindergarten next year or any questions related to enrolment please contact our helpful office ladies or our Kindergarten Transition Coordinator Chis Soklaridis on 49641369. We look forward to seeing plenty of family members at school during our Education Week activities. Stuart Wylie - Principal

Welcome back to term 3!

I hope you had a happy and healthy holiday with your children.

The weather continues to be cold so please ensure name and class are

written on jackets, jumpers, tracksuit pants and hats so if items become

misplaced, they can be returned to the owner.

If your child or you know of any other children starting Kindergarten with

us in 2020; pick up an enrolment pack from the front office as soon as

possible.

Our Kindergarten 2020 numbers are growing daily and organisation for

Kindergarten Orientation in Term 4 is taking place now.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome 2 new teachers to our

Kindergarten team.

Eleanor Ridder, a new permanent member of the TPS staff, is teaching

KL.

Rebecca Morris is teaching K/1H and I am relieving AP while Mrs Hooson

is on sick leave during Term 3.

Thank you for the continued support you show in your child’s education.

If you need to contact me, ring or email the school.
