Principal’s News Every day Counts at One Mile SS
The Department of Education and
Training has developed a range of
free resources to promote the
importance of going to school, every day.
Research shows that school attendance leads to
positive student outcomes, and can help children to
build social and emotional skills.
The new ‘every day counts’ resources, developed
with the input of Solid Pathways students
(www.indigenous.education.qld.gov.au/school/Pages/
solid-pathways.aspx), includes an animation, comic
book, posters, as well as tips to help encourage
students go to school every day.
Check out the new resources and see if you can spot
some of your favourite NRL footy players —
visit the ‘every day counts’ website
www.everydaycounts.eq.edu.au.
Numeracy Success Project
The Numeracy Success project continues this year to
continue the great work already happening in our
schools as a result from last year’s efforts. The project
this year will see three of our classroom teachers
(Ms Morley, Mrs Sauer and Mrs Cantle) and our
Master Teacher Mrs Barton be involved regularly with
other teachers from 7 other Primary Schools in the
Gympie area as well as Secondary Maths Teachers
from Gympie SHS and James Nash SHS.
Our teachers will then come back to One Mile and
share with their peers to increase the capacity across
our whole staff. All our teachers will also be part of
moderation next week as a way to create greater
consistency across the Gympie Schools.
Pink Stumps Day
Pink Stumps Day this Friday the 3rd of February and I
look forward to seeing a lot of pink as we raise funds
for the McGrath Foundation. I’m looking forward to
the staff verse students cricket game after second
break.
Thank you to Mrs Cantle

From the Deputy’s Desk Managing Young Children Program –
MYCP
Parents at One Mile are able to access this free
program. It is for any family with young children
exhibiting difficult/challenging behaviour. Please see
the separate article for more information. If you are
not sure or would like more information please contact
either Wayne Bahr (coordinator) or myself.
Behaviour Levels
There has been some confusion around the
Confirmation letters given out last week. At the
beginning of each year students on Silver, Gold or
Platinum behaviour level are required to ‘confirm’
their current behaviour level. This reminds students of
the expected behaviour and sets them up for a
successful year. Students will have the opportunity to
apply to change behaviour levels in the middle of this
term.
Parking
Thank you to all the parents using the car spaces in the
pick-up area. The start of year is always a very busy
time with our new Preps learning routines.

Early Act News
Last year part of the
Early Act International
Project was to collect money to buy birthing kits for
women living in challenging circumstances overseas.
We raised money with a free dress day and selling
lamingtons and donuts. The eleven Early Act members,
Mrs Cantle and Mrs Palmer went to Fullife Pharmacy at
Goldfields for three hours to help assemble the kits.
We have received notification that the kits were
distributed in November to several welfare
organisations and distributed to women in need.
Below is a list of distribution. Thanks so very much to
the One Mile Community for your support of this
project. Thanks also to Di and David from Fulllife
Pharmacy for helping to make this happen.

BRING HOME A BIG BROTHER OR
SISTER AND BRING FRENCH CULTURE
TO LIFE !
Why not volunteer to host an international
student from France mid year? We have a
small group of delightful French students
coming to Australia for 10 weeks to immerse
in local Australian culture, experience our
High schools, sports, environment and
lifestyle. Arriving in June, all the French
students are around 15 years old, speak
excellent English, have their own spending
money, cover all school expenses ,and we
arrange all aspects of their program. They are
looking forward to joining an Australian
family for a short term. It’s fun and interesting
to help these young people achieve their
Australian dream. If you’d like know more,
please email your interest to Rob at Inter
Cultural Management on rob.lindsay@icm-
education.com.au or call 0438 689828.
