News at Central PRINCIPAL: Michael Fisher
Welcome to another awesome week at Broken Hill Public
School.
Easter Hat Parade
We are once again looking forward to our Easter Hat Parade
this year to be held on Thursday, 6th April.
We would like to encourage parents and family members to
come along in a hat and join the community parade.
It is always a colourful and exciting part of our year.
Attendance
Once again we will be focusing on children’s attendance
throughout the year. It is vital that they attend every day to
make the most of their learning opportunities.
If a child is absent from school one day a week, by the end of
the year, they have missed the equivalent of 8 school weeks of
learning. Almost a term. If this continues throughout their
primary education it adds up to 280 days missed. Over a year
of learning lost.
Please remember…

We would also like to address the number of students who are consistently ‘Late to
School’. Many of the reasons are for ‘sleeping in’ and/or ‘took too long to get here’.
Unfortunately we cannot accept these as reasons for lateness. We would ask that if
children are late that they are signed in by a parent or caregiver.
Five or 10 minutes here or there may not seem like much but added up over time can
equal hours of ‘prime learning time’ lost.
Thank you for assistance with this matter.
What EXAMPLE are YOU Setting?
This year we will be consistently asking “What EXAMPLE are YOU Setting?” This phrase will
be asked and spoken about with all the children and staff as a reminder of the rules and
expectations of being at Broken Hill Public School as well as in the wider community. We
would also encourage the phrase to be discussed at home as I am sure it is something
we should all be striving to do for our children.
Mica Lane
Just a reminder to everyone that Mica Lane behind the school is one way traffic. Mica
Lane can be accessed from Bromide St and is one way up the hill.
Thank you for your assistance in keeping our students and others safe.

FRIDAY
31st March
Last Friday was a glorious Autumn day out at Alma Oval for the Regional Primary Schools
League Tag Gala Day. Our team had trained hard in preparation for this day and it was
evident to all schools that our Central team meant business. In our pool games, we
defeated Alma, Menindee and Railway Town.
Then in our Semi Final, we defended really well to hold out a very fast team of students
from Wilcannia. Next up, with no time for a drink, it was straight into the Grand Final
against Burke Ward. For most of the game it was 1-1, then with only a minute to go,
Tasman made a dashing run around their team to score a memorable gala day winning
try. It was AWESOME!
Thank you to the parents who came to support us. In addition, I’d like to personally thank
all of our CRL team students for displaying fantastic sportsmanship throughout the day.
The school community and I are extremely proud of you. It was a real team effort! Well
done to Brock, Dwight, Eli, Kynan, Tasman, Jordan, Blaine, Damien, Ricky, Trae, Emerson
and Lewis.
Mr Troy Perkins
Our team with Roy Asotasi after our
first win of the day against Alma.
Roy Asotasi is an NRL legend playing
first grade for many years for both
the Canterbury Bulldogs and South
Sydney Rabbitohs. He was one of
many professional NRL players at
the gala day.
