September 2015
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year!
We are excited to welcome you back and introduce others to the TOSH community
for the first time! As the new principal of TOSH, I am looking forward to getting to
know you and continue the tradition of academic and athletic excellence at TOSH.
My vision for TOSH is for us to constantly demonstrate our commitment to excellence
through our expectations of our students. It’s not always easy, but we show our stu-
dents we care for them by expecting all of them to succeed and excel in a safe and
caring environment. Parents, you are extremely important in helping us to create and
maintain this environment . We must be on the same team in teaching our students
to respect each other and all members in our community. Post high school readiness
also requires us to teach our students to have excellent character, skills and behavior.
We are committed to CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT and EXCELLENCE in our school
community and look forward with working with you.
Our focus for the 2015-2016 school year in terms of positive school environment will be delivered on the first day of classes. Four areas of focus which will be discussed are as follows:
Hallway Language
Attendance
Lates
Front Entrance
As these are four areas of focus many other areas will receive attention from staff as always. The above four areas were areas of concern that were identified and will be addressed throughout the year. At any time during the year if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call or stop in to see me. I look forward to working with you to make this year a very successful one.

Our goal is that this website will provide you with useful and easily accessible infor-mation, advice and a real insight into our school. We will endeavor to maintain up to date information with times and dates of all forthcoming events. A student picture gallery is also found on the site capturing our school events.

Athletics
Representing our school in athletic activities is a privilege that students must accept
with a full sense of responsibility and pride. Being an ambassador of our school, it is
expected that our students project a positive image throughout their extra-curricular
involvement in the school and in the community. This accepted kind of behaviour and
attitude is expected to be shown in the classroom and general school area, as well as
on the sporting field/activity area. A Code of Conduct which addresses issues such as
academics, part-time employment, fundraising, uniforms/equipment, smoking/alcohol
and other drug use, activity areas, practices, overlapping sport seasons, and outside
activities will be available for all student athletes and parents/guardians to read and
sign.

Attendance
The most important thing a Senior High School student can do to ensure success is to
have regular attendance in every one of his/her classes. There are activities and dis-
cussions which occur in classes that simply cannot be replicated, there is instruction
on high level topics that is never the same as getting the notes from a friend and
there are curriculum objectives that can only be achieved through participation. Our
attendance policy is that we require a phone call or e-mail from a parent/guardian to
excuse a student for any reason, whether it be for an entire or partial school day or
for one Period of class. Please help us by communicating a student’s absence, or an
excused late arrival to school.
Please see Student Handbook for detailed information regarding Attendance

Student Government
Student Government is a council where we listen and act on the wants and needs to
the voices around the school. It is a good place to come and voice your thoughts and
options for the school. We also take a look into today's world and the events hap-
pening around us in the political side of things. You do not need to know much or
anything about politics, so come out and take a look into our council we would love
to meet you and here what you have to say! Students are invited to join one of the
following Councils.

bringing private cars to school. However,
driving without due care and attention in

erated. Students can park on the north
side of the school parking lot only. Vehi-
cles parked in staff or no parking zones
will be identified and license numbers
reported to city police. Bus and fire lanes
must be clear of vehicles. The bus park-
ing lot is out of bounds to all vehicles

The NCF-Envirothon is an annual competition for high school-aged students conducted over five consecutive days every summer during July or August. To expose students to diverse environmental issues, ecosystems, and topog-raphy the North American Envirothon is hosted in a different location each year. Teams from participating states and Canadian provinces, who have won their state or provincial event, compete for recognition and scholarships by demonstrating their knowledge of environmental science and natural resource management. The teams, each consisting of five members, work to demonstrate their knowledge of environmental science and natural resource management at five training/testing stations. Training for the NCF-Envirothon begins well in advance of the actual event. Each team arrives at the NCF-Envirothon as a result of extensive training and superior performance at local and/or regional and state/provincial Envirothon competitions. At the conclusion of the competition, scores are combined for final ranking and awards distribution.
Our young team consisting of Robin Burton, Curtis Lough, Karen Farag, Mia Campbell and Hannah Arsenault-
Gallant finished the week as the top Maritime team and fifth overall among the Canadian entries. To see the kids
in action, please visit there Facebook page....Three Oaks Envirothon Team....lots of pictures and information.
Thank you to Heather Pringle and Chris Higginbotham for your time and energy with this competition.
