Dear Parents and Community Members,
Welcome to the Week 4 newsletter. I hope everyone’s harvest is progressing as planned.
I am pleased to report that after last week’s unusually cold weather, we have been able to recommence swimming and make the most of our fantastic resource that we are privileged to have on site.
Public School Review The Public School Review Process for Yuna Primary School is now complete. This is a new initiative developed by the Department. It is a self-reflection process that has been designed to support improvement.
The report for our school can be found on Schools Online via the following link: https://www.det.wa.edu.au/schoolsonline
If you have any queries or concerns about the report, or you would like further information, please contact the school to arrange a time to meet with me. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss the future direction of our school and new initiatives planned for 2020 and beyond.
Enrolments for 2020 A reminder to parents that you need to apply to enrol your children in school for 2020 if they are: starting Kindergarten (4 years old by 30 June 2020) starting Pre-primary, the first year of compulsory school (5 years old by 30

Enrolment forms are available from the school office. Enquiries and visits to our school are always welcome!
School Council Meeting Term 4 The School Council meeting will be held in the school library on Thursday the 28th of November at 3:15pm.
What is the Role of a School Council?
The council or board of a public school works with the school community to achieve the best outcomes for students.
It plays an important role in contributing to good school governance so that resources are used efficiently and community expectations and the school’s priorities reflect the needs of students.
Yuna Primary School has an unincorporated School Council and uses approved Terms of Reference to define its way of working to meet legislative requirements.
The function of the School Council is covered by legislation and includes both approval and advisory roles. Some of the matters considered include making decisions on school fees and charges, book lists, sponsorship and dress codes. The Council makes these decisions with the principal who ensures the decisions

adhere to legislative and policy requirements. The Principal also seeks the advice of the council to better understand the local community’s views.
The council does not intervene in the control or management of the school. This is the role of the principal.
What is the relationship between the P&C and the School Council?
Both the P and C and the School Council play important roles in supporting our school. They have separate functions which are legislated, but work together to achieve common goals. Members of the council and the P&C often work together on different projects.
While there can be no ex officio position for a P&C member on the council, there are two ways by which P&C members can be members:
nominated as a parent member; or nominated as a community member.
The legislation provides categories of membership on a council that includes parent/student, community and staff.
How can you be involved in our school?
There are many ways to be involved! Here are just a few:
Join the P&C Nominate to be a member of the council Volunteer in the canteen or library Help out at events such as the sports carnival Bring along your skills to a ‘busy bee’ Take part in class excursions Coach sporting teams or clubs e.g. chess, computer, netball, football Attend school assemblies and special occasions Help to organise fundraising initiatives
School Development Day Reminder A reminder that Monday the 11th of November is pupil free day.
Staff take advantage of this opportunity to plan the teaching and learning program ahead.
Food Sensations On Thursday of last week our students learnt about Healthy Eating and participated in a fun and interactive workshop coordinated by Health Promotion Officers from the WA Health Department. Students made Crazy Corn Dip, Noodle Ninja Mince, Atomic Apple Crumble and Coco Loco Balls.
Students learnt about take away foods V’s home made. Many take away foods are high in fat, sugar and salt.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the activities and their cooking efforts were rewarded at the end of the day with a delicious healthy feast. Kind Regards, Roseanne Ullrich Principal

Several of the senior room students entered the Primary School Diary Cover Art Competition for 2020. Congratulations to Bella Allen whose art work was selected as the runner up! They received 130 fantastic entries and Bella’s artwork will be included on the inside of the front cover of the diaries next year. Awesome work Bella and we look forward to seeing the diaries next year.
Congratulations to Tora Smith for reading over 175 nights. A great effort. Remember to keep reading over the holidays everyone and enjoy a great book.
Happy birthday to Holly Green

What a busy term it’s been so far! Here is a small update on the Junior room.
Pen Pals Last term, I signed up my Junior class for pen pals through Australia Post and last week, we were assigned a class from a school in Victoria. We have since discovered this class is very similar to ours. The school, Labertouche Primary School, is located an hour east of Melbourne. It is however, still very small, with only 26 children. Their Junior room also consists of eight children, just like us! We were very excited to send them a letter. After two days of intensive writing, our letters were posted. We are now eagerly waiting for their response! Growth Mindset At the end of last term, we decided to set some goals for Term 4. These included specific learning, kindness, behaviour, sport and personal goals. We are currently in the process of reviewing our first goal for the term. This week, some children are focussing on improving their literacy and numeracy skills, whilst others have chosen to focus on being kind to others and the environment. Our growth mindset tree to display all our goals is a work in progress!
Workshop After an agonising wait, the workshop has officially opened in the Junior room this term! As a class, we formulated some rules and expectations for working in the workshop and everyone was happy to sign a contract. We have all been very sensible in our new learning centre and are enjoying the freedom to learn through play. Thank you to Liam Mann for his help in repairing the workbench.
Swimming It is starting to warm up so, the pool is in action again for another stifling summer!
We are all enjoying the opportunity to swim in the big pool together! Caitlyn Sultanowsky, Junior Room Teacher.

From around the Community
CSBP, together with Grant Thompson from Crop Circle Consulting, put in a small Lupin Manganese trial at seeding time and were recently out for the day to harvest it in the Haldrup C-70 header. It was so cute!! It looked like a giant Lego piece in the paddock. Perfect size for the kids.
