TRACK & FIELD!!!!!

Richmond Raptors had an exciting rugby season this May. We were able, as a school, to field three rugby teams. We had a girls team, boys team, and coed team. It was a busy season with a learning tournament at the start of the sea-son, with a few league games for each team, as well as, three big end of season tournaments. The boys and girls teams played at United Soccer Field in Niagara Falls; versus at least twelve other teams. They played great together as a team, their speed was phenomenal, and it really came down to good defence overall. The girls went undefeated in the tournament all the way to the final versus Dalewood. They battled a tough match, with triple overtime and another possessional play finish. They ended up winning the championship. The boys also played very well. They went undefeated all through pool play to end up in the final as well. They also had to battle three more overtime matches with another possessional play finish. They lost by one try and ended up claiming second at the tournament, as tournament finalist. So proud of how hard they worked and how well they played together. The Coed team played their tournament at West park field in St. Catharines. They also played brilliantly, with at least twenty teams in the competitive side of this tournament. They ended up third in their pool, went on to beat the second place team (Jacob Beam) from the crossover pool. This put them in the semifinal, we fought hard and played great defence, but it wasn’t enough. We lost in the semi final which put us in consolation championship. We played great defence against Power Glen and ended up winning that game to be consolation champs! In Summary: The Girls ended up Champions, Boys, Finalists, and Coed Consolation Champions. First, Second and Third. An awesome outcome for these kids! Way to Go! Girls Team: Aaliyah, Amira, Anna, Anika, Ava, Brookelyn, Chloe, Eleanor, Emelia, Grace, Hailey, Jadyn, Megan, Miya, Shanice Boys Team: Brady, Britton, Ethan, Jaekob, Jordan, Hasan, Nathan, Nolan, Owen, Tyler, Sutter Coed Team: Aaliyah, Anna, Amira, Anika, Ava, Eleanor, Emelia, Grace, Hailey, Megan, Miya, Britton, Jaekob, Jordan, Hasan, Owen, Tyler, Sutter

RANKIN CANCER RUN!!

The 14th Annual Rankin Cancer Run for Niagara was held on a rainy and stormy Saturday, May 25th, 2019 at Grantham Lions Park in St. Catharines. The run continues to respond to a tremendous need in our community by returning the funds raised, directly to cancer care here in Niagara.

This year Richmond entered yet another team to walk/run the 1km or 5km community event. Several schools in the DSBN have been entering large teams for the past few years and Richmond has always been represented strongly at this wonderful event. Together, we had 103 registered participants on our team and raised $4100.00 towards the cause. We earned some equipment for our school and two tro-phies for our efforts. Thank you to every-one who joined this amazing cause!

Sincerely, Mrs. Desson

If you LOST it ….. we likely HAVE it!!

The sun is shining and it’s time to get outside to play! But before you run outside, make sure you remember your 5 S’s…

• Slip: on some clothes that will protect your skin from the sun (loose-fitting and tightly woven are best).

• Slop: on some sunscreen that is at least SPF 30 and filters UVA & UVB rays (broad-spectrum). Put sun-screen on 20 minutes BEFORE you go outside, so it can soak in. Don’t forget your ears, nose and feet if you are wearing sandals! Lips should also be protected with SPF 30 lip balm.

• Slap: on a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face, ears and neck

• Seek: shade when outside between 11am-4pm

• Slide: on some sunglasses that have 100% UVA & UVB filters. Attention moms, dads, coaches and caregivers: sun damage can happen quickly, so make sure youth remember sunscreen for lunch break, gym class, track and field and other outdoor activities. For more information, talk to your school nurse.

THE SUN IS BACK!

2019-20 BACK TO SCHOOL STUDENT TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION

On Monday, August 19, 2019 Niagara Student Transportation Services (NSTS) will post specific back to school transportation arrangements for each student enrolled, including bus route numbers, stop lo-cations and times. Please visit www.nsts.ca and sign-in to the secure parent portal to get your child’s student transporta-tion information. To sign-in to the portal you will need your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) which can be found on their report card. While signed-in, please subscribe to the delay and cancellation module for direct and timely emails re-garding student transportation that impacts your child’s bus route. Eligibility information is also available through the portal including walking directions if your child lives within the walk zone of the school and is not eligible for transportation service.

** IMPORTANT NOTICE** Changes to home, pick-up or drop-off addresses must be made through your child’s school before the school closes in JUNE. During the summer you may notify NSTS (see above contact number) of ad-dress changes so we can make sure a bus stop is available for your child to start the school year, how-ever, NSTS is not authorized to change student address information. Bus set up @ NSTS will take 3 business days to complete (please make your changes prior to September 4th start up in order for your child to have bussing set up). With the availability of the secure parent portal, NSTS will not mail student transportation notices with the exception of Kindergarten students or new students to the system who do not have an OEN to sign-in to the portal. Please contact your school (905-227-2971) or NSTS (905-357-6787) if you have questions regarding your child’s transportation arrangements. Richmond office will re-open August 26, 2019 after the sum-mer break.

STUDENT ATTENDANCE - SAFE ARRIVAL

As of December 1st, 2018, Richmond Street School has implemented the NEW Safe Arrival for our student attendance. This NEW attendance system is imple-mented board wide and is also being used in other boards within the Niagara Re-gion to ensure ALL students arrive to school safely each day.

There are (3) options to choose from for reporting your child’s absence:

• Toll free number 1-866-606-5567 • Mobile app > School Messenger (blue one) - you will need to have an email ad-

dress in the students school records • Safe Arrival website: https://go.schoolmessenger.ca
