Happy Birthday to

Madeline Buckley, Layne

Chalson, Henry Billen, Pia

Allan-Agnew, Sam

McGhie, Coen Allison and

Zoe Landel who are all

celebrating their birthdays

this week. On behalf of the

Puckapunyal Primary

School Community, we wish

them all a very

Happy Birthday!

Winter health tips: Adopt some smart hygiene practices: Simple prevention

methods are often overlooked, but washing your hands

regularly with soap helps to prevent the spread of germs

and control infection. If you need to cough or sneeze,

use a tissue and dispose of it.

Second-hand uniform: If your children have outgrown

their track pants we can find use for them. Our stocks are

very low.

Enjoy your week!!

Many of our Years 5/6 students have expressed an

interest to attend the 4 Day Bike Ride that takes

place in October. They will ride 160kms and

participate in other outdoor activities in 4 days. This

is an event that requires strong commitment by the

students who are involved.

Training for the ride will begins in a few weeks.

Each week, they will participate in 3 training

sessions to keep fit. Good luck kids!

Teachers are looking for students who are demonstrating ‘Striving for Excellence’ to be eligible for the Student of the

Week award. We encourage parents to talk to their students about our values throughout the year.

What is Striving for Excellence? At assembly this week, Year 5 student Kasey Herring read out the meaning of

Striving for Excellence.

‘Excellence is giving your absolute best to any task you do. When you practise excellence, you are not trying to be

better than anyone else, just the very best that you can be.’

School Athletics This term, all students will begin their

athletics training. In P.E. and Sport the students will be out again

practising their field and track events.

We have House Athletics Carnivals scheduled for both Foundation-

Year 2 and Year 3-6 students.

*Years 3-6: Thursday 6th September - Friday 7th September

Defence School Transition Aide Message Back at school: I trust that everyone has had a smooth and

satisfactory beginning to the school year. Changing schools,

beginning school for the first time and even returning for another

school year can be daunting for students and parents. It is great to see

parents eager to support their children at this time and be an integral

part of their education. If you have any concerns, or just feel like a

chat about school and your child, please find me!

SWAPP Select Program

I have information about the ADF partners career assistance program

if anyone is interested.

NEW UNIFORM

We have recently had a new shipment of uniform arrive that includes

shorts, tops, tracksuit pants and hats. Some parents have been waiting

on this to arrive.

Best wishes for the week.

borrowing equipment from the sports shed:

- Return all of your items when you’re finished

- Don’t play with any equipment at the front of the

school

- Treat all equipment with respect

- Don’t leave your borrowed equipment unattended

Please discuss these rules with your children to help ensure

that they understand.

for scientists at the Children’s Medical

Institute to discover treatments and cures for

childhood diseases.

On Friday 3rd August, we will be participating

in ‘Jeans for Genes’ Day. We are hoping our

school will become a sea of denim in a united

stance against childhood diseases. We may

even see double denim from some of the

staff?!

Please wear your favourite jeans or crazy

denim outfit and bring a gold coin donation to

help support this great cause.

Each week in the newsletter, we will give families a summary of the Teaching/Learning Focus for the week.

That can help families by: being aware of what classrooms are covering; with discussion topics at the dinner table

when discussing school (eg. ‘How are you going with addition in Numeracy this week?’); helping their children study at

home, etc. Parents have indicated that this information would be very useful. We also ask families to be aware that

schools are very busy places and events can be unpredictable at times. We therefore must remain flexible. That means,

we can plan to cover certain topics at particular times and have to change them according to arising needs.

Junior School – Preps/Foundation Rooms 6 & 8 Literacy: We are learning about the letters ‘p and x’. We are revising the difference between words and letters.

Numeracy: We are learning about the numbers 11 and 12. We are revising clocks and connecting the days of the week

to familiar events.

Junior School – Year 1s Rooms 3, 4 & 8 Literacy: .We are learning about the letters ‘p and x’. We are learning about antonyms and writing letters and

invitations.

Numeracy: We are continuing to practise skip counting and revising numbers to 100.

Junior School – Year 2s Rooms 3, 4 & 10 Literacy: We are learning about antonyms and writing letters and invitations. We are trying to edit our writing and

make it more interesting by including adjectives.

Numeracy: We are continuing to practise skip counting and revising numbers to 100. We are revising the relationship

between addition and subtraction of one and two digit numbers.

Middle School Years 3/4 Rooms 9, 11, 12 & 13 Literacy: Over the next two weeks we will be focusing on transactional writing and the VCOP components.

Numeracy: We will also be working on worded problems and the relationship between multiplication and division as

well as symmetry in Numeracy.

Senior School Years 5/6 Rooms 1 & 2 Literacy: Over the next two weeks we will be focusing on letter writing and the VCOP components as well as

summarising in Literacy.

Numeracy: We will also be working on the four processes, place value, knowledge of ordering decimals as well as

revising area and perimeter and introducing volume.

Well done to the 33 students

who attended the Hoop

Time Basketball

Competition last week.

They received certificates

Last week 33 students went to Hoop Time in Seymour. There were 5 different teams and I was in the

Future Stars. My team got to play 4 games, but we didn’t make it to the Grand Final. Out of the 4 games we

only won one game. It was a good day.

Melrose Pambai 3/4 D

It was a great experience to go up against some good teams and learn some new skills to use while playing

them. We were able to beat some of the teams with these new skills. Sadly, we didn’t get to make it to the

Grand Final, but we were close to making it. It was a fantastic day.

Dallas Ridl Ornsby 3/4 D

I like how lots of students from our school participated. The day was a good opportunity to show off the

skills we had learnt at school. Everyone showed good sportsmanship. I liked it how my team tried their

hardest and we won 3 out of the 4 games that we played.

May Kelly 3/4 D

I thought Hoop Time was a great experience. We had the opportunity to compete against a lot of other

teams from different schools. I got some great shots. One was over my head and for the second one I ran

from one end of the court to the other. My team won 3 out of 4 games and I was proud of them.
