The Princess Cruises Community Foundation is building a history . As it reaches its 5-year milestone, we can reflect positively on the donations of $2 million to date providing much needed assistance to organizations throughout the world .

There is more work to do . The devastating Typhoon Haiyan which struck the Philippines in November 2013 brought to light the personal side of natural disasters and the importance of serving the communities that touch us . Many of Princess Cruises’ crew members hail from the region and dealt with the stress of being away from home while suffering uncertainty over the well-being of their loved ones . We at the Princess Cruises Community Foundation realize that for every cause, there is a personal side and our energetic volunteers serve the communities in which we work and travel in so many ways .

As Princess Cruises continued to grow its home port cruising from Japan, the Foundation’s onboard walks in that market raised money in support of Katariba, an organization supporting education opportunities for youth affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake .

In 2013, we continued providing breast cancer research grants to Susan G . Komen for the Cure, in the hopes of working toward a cure for this disease that touches so many individuals and families . Our “On Deck for the Cure” walks on board the Princess Cruises ships raise not only money for this cause, but awareness among our generous passengers of the importance of early detection and treatment .

The Princess Cruises Community Foundation and the grants it provides to better communities are expressions of the responsibility we have to support the people and places that Princess Cruises touches through our global cruising and international passengers and crew .

I want to extend our sincere thanks to our passengers, employee volunteers and other supporters who give their money, time and effort to help people and communities in need . We look forward to making a difference in the years to come .

Sincerely,

The Princess Cruises Community Foundation, a nonprofit public benefit corporation, is committed to supporting charitable causes around the world, and provides grants to organizations dedicated to children, education, the environment, and community health and welfare in ports visited by Princess ships, in regions where Princess seafarers reside, and in locales from which Princess operates .

In 2013, the Foundation distributed grants of over $238,000 benefiting individuals and organizations in communities across the United States and throughout the world, including California, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and the Philippines .

These grants have aided in natural disaster relief, have been used to promote awareness, research and treatment of life-threatening diseases, and have provided for the needs of under-served children and families .

Responding to NeedThe Princess Cruises Community Foundation’s ability to provide grants is a direct result of our generous passengers’ crew’s and employees’ desire to help others . Money is raised through a variety of activities .

• Donation Globes . “World of Change” donation globes are located at the Passenger Services Desk on each of the Princess ships serving as a reminder of the small world we share . All the money in various currencies deposited in these globes by passengers goes directly to the Foundation .

• Nautical Chart Auctions . Each voyage of a Princess ship is commemorated with a hand-drawn nautical chart detailing the route of the voyage and is signed by the ship’s Captain . Passengers have the opportunity to take home a lasting memory of their vacation while supporting the Foundation through an auction of the chart sold to the highest bidder with all the proceeds from the winning bid going directly to the Foundation .

• Shipboard and Shoreside Employee Contributions . Princess takes great pride in the generosity of the company’s employees who donate their time, talents and resources to help those in need . Employees on board Princess ships volunteer their time and coordinate collections, while employees ashore join forces with their families and friends to form Foundation teams that participate in various fundraising walks and service projects .

• Donations to the Foundation . Contributions to the Foundation are received from Princess Cruises and its vendors, passengers and community supporters to aid the ability of the Princess Cruises Community Foundation to provide grants to many worthy causes .

The Princess Cruises Community Foundation is dedicated to a healthy world, and works toward this goal by supporting organizations that fight some of the most devastating illnesses plaguing our communities . The Foundation supports organizations dedicated to fighting a number of diseases, including cancer, AIDS, and heart disease, with the goal of supporting patients and families undergoing treatment, improving diagnostics and therapies, and, ultimately, finding cures .

Susan G. Komen for the CureSusan G . Komen for the Cure continued in 2013 to be a key beneficiary of the Foundation’s fundraising efforts . On Deck for the Cure walks on board the ships inviting passengers to donate $15, don a special hat and walk a 5K course around the decks, continued in its 5th year to fund the Foundation’s grants earmarked for research to fight breast cancer . The response from passengers was nothing short of amazing . Over 11,000 vacationers spent a portion of their holiday time on board walking in support of breast cancer research .

Shoreside events were held with the Foundation sponsoring a donation for each Princess Cruises employee volunteer participating in a walk .
