Volume 1, Issue 1 “For everything there is a sea-
son, and a time for every mat-
ter under heaven” writes the
author of Ecclesiastes, and boy
don’t we know that to be true.
It seems that change is always
in the air with old things fading
away and new things coming
to fruition. God is a god of
changes; not that He changes,
but He is always bringing about
change and “doing a new
thing” among us. In a sense,
God has never ceased being a
creator; even though He rested
on the seventh day, He is al-
ways bring about new things
out of the former things.
Through the prophet Isaiah,
God declares “Behold, the for-
mer things have come to pass,
and new things I now declare;
before they spring forth I tell you
of them." As hard as change
can be sometimes, when God
brings forth new things, they are
always for our good.
We have experience some
changes here at Prince of
Peace over the last 10 months,
haven’t we? A former pastor
retires, a new pastor is called.
We have a new church secre-
tary, a new 2nd grade teacher,
new faces in church and
school, and now we begin a
new school year and a new
season of ministry at our church
and school with new service
times, Sunday school opportuni-
ties and midweek Bible studies.
Changes can be difficult, but
God is doing a new thing
among us for our good. I whole
heartedly believe that and am
very grateful and privileged to
be a part of this season in the
life of Christ’s church that is
Prince of Peace.
Yes, there are many changes
happening around us, but there
are some things that I pray will
never change: let us always
keep Christ, crucified and risen
for us, at the center of all that
we are and do here at Prince of
Peace, and may we continue
to grow in a renewing love for
one another. Lord, grant us a
blessed new season!
Page 2 Volume 1, Issue 1
Dear Prince of Peace members,
Welcome to a new school year. It is a brand new beginning. We start clean. It always
reminds me of how God wipes away our sins and lets us start clean daily. Lamenta-
tions 3:22b-23 says, “for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.”
As we begin our new school year, we will be celebrating the 500th year of the
Protestant the Reformation ignited by Martin Luther as he sought reforms for the
Roman Catholic Church. These reforms were founded upon the clear and authorita-
tive teachings of Holy Scripture. Luther called the church back to the teachings of
Christ and the apostles regarding how a person is made right before God; it is by
grace alone through faith alone on account of Christ alone so that God alone receives
the glory for man’s salvation.
The impact of the Reformation was much more far reaching that just a reforming of
church doctrine and practice. The reformers valued the education of all people, so
they could read and think for themselves and developed the first public education
system in Europe. The education of our youth is just one of the many blessings of the
Reformation that continues to benefit us today
Prince of Peace Lutheran School opened our doors in 1956. Many students have been
part of this loving, nurturing environment where God’s love is not only proclaimed; it
is practiced. This year we will be applying for accreditation from the National Luther-
an Schools Accreditation and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. This
will insure that we continue to be a school of excellence and constantly improving.
As we celebrate this historic 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, we reflect on the
courage of Martin Luther and give thanks for the opportunity to be strengthened by
faith and prepared for life as we proclaim God’s truth and share His love for all peo-
ple.
The faculty prays daily for students and their families. If you have any prayer re-
quests you want us to include, you can email me.
God bless our children, their families,
and Prince of Peace Lutheran School.
In His Service,
Mrs. Smallwood

What we Teach and What we Believe Class
5 Week class starting Sept. 11th
Our “What We Believe, Teach, and Confess” class
starts Monday September 11th at 6:30-8pm (FR)
What does Scripture teach us about how we should
read and understand God’s Word as contained in
the Bible? What does the Bible teach about God
the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? How and what
should we pray? How does God deliver His gra-
cious gifts of forgiveness, life and salvation to you
that are yours through His Son, Jesus? How does
what we believe effect how we worship on Sunday
and how we live daily throughout the week? The
answers to these questions and more will be
taught and discussed in our WWBTC class. Come
and learn about the historic and biblical Christian
faith; and if you’ve been through this before, come
and be refreshed again by these wonderful truths
that we Christians dearly uphold and desire to
share with others.
If you are interested in membership, this 5 week
class will give you a good overview of what we at
Prince of Peace believe about the Christian faith;
we would love you to be a part of our church fami-
ly. Please call or visit with Pastor Sheek, for fur-
ther information.

At least 161 LCMS congrega-
tions are in the areas affected by
Hurricane Harvey and the
floods. The Synod stands with
those in need through prayer
and support. “For the love of
Christ controls us, because we
have concluded this: that one
has died for all” (2 COR. 5:14).
The love of Christ compels us to
love everyone. Love flows from
the cross in service to those in need, just as Christ came in the flesh to
save. You can help those suffering from the effects of the storm and the
floodwaters. LCMS World Relief and Human Care, through Disaster Re-
sponse, is working with the Texas District to support relief efforts and to
aid those in need.
Lord of heaven and
earth, we know that You
hold all things in Your
hands. In Your mercy,
provide for the needs of
those who have been af-
fected by Hurricane Har-
vey and the rain that
continues to fall, work
through those who bring
relief and aid, and pro-
tect all from any further
harm. Draw all to the
cross of Christ, who is
our salvation now and
always. We ask this in
Jesus’ name. Amen.
