Disclaimer Statement:
This scholarship booklet is prepared before all scholarships applications are received. Therefore, we are compelled to notify you and your parents that the scholarships listed in this publication are based on the scholarships listings that were published last year. Therefore, it is beyond our control if some of the scholarship deadlines are not the same as they were listed last school year. If and when we are notified of a change in deadline date, we will communicate the information via PGTV announcements as soon as we are informed.
2
****Please be aware that although some scholarships are due to the School Counseling Office, it is your responsibility to mail ALL other scholarships when there is an address provided on the application. Many deadlines are a postmark date so this will ensure that your application is reaching the destination in a timely manner.

MONEY FOR COLLEGE PREFACE
The purpose of this book is to help parents and students locate some of the financial aid funds available, from local, state and national level organizations, for the sole purpose of funding a post-secondary education. This resource provides information about monies available through scholarships, grants and essay contests. As a reference, there are three general types of financial aid available to students:
1. Grants and scholarships that do not have to be repaid. 2. Parent and student loans which must be repaid3. Work-study jobs which enable students to earn a portion of
school cost while enrolled in college.
Some of these awards are distributed through the high school; some through post-secondary financial aid offices; and some directly through clubs and or organizations. Most of these awards are competitive and individualized; therefore, each source has its own deadline, qualifications, and requirements. Parents and students are encouraged to try many sources in fact, try all the sources for which you are qualified.
The following is a list of sources of grants and scholarships:
A. PRIVATE SOURCES1. Place of employment 11. Church Affiliation2. Sororities/Fraternities 12. Companies3. Nationality 13. Labor Unions4. Civic Groups 14. College/University5. Each year, weather permitting, a financial aid workshop is offered in the evening for students and parents. In the past federal financial aid forms were available in the guidance office however these forms will only be available via the official online website site, www.fafsa.ed.gov. This year’s Financial Aid Conference will be held in January, (date to be announced) in the PGHS auditorium. All parents are encouraged to attend. A financial aid officer from a local college or financial aid institution will be the facilitator. Scholarships are announced on PGTV from late September until graduation. Seniors are encouraged to listen to the announcements and to read the morning reports for details. A scholarship bulletin board is maintained in the commons area and all of the school counselors and the guidance registrar can help you with any questions concerning individual scholarships. Senior English and Government teachers are also given a weekly scholarship list to post in their room. The scholarship booklet will be posted on the WEB for your convenience, and in addition new scholarship opportunities will be posted weekly! This booklet is an attempt to notify you of scholarship and other financial aid opportunities currently available to PGHS students. Applications for these scholarships can be obtained either in the guidance office or via a website or physical address, as they are announced. Please take advantage of this most valuable resource. Good luck on your financial aid searches, Prince George High School Counseling Department.Accounting Excellence Scholarship
