  • he Confederation Trail, Prince Edward Islands tip to tip trail, was developed on abandoned railway lines and takes you into wetlands and hardwood groves, through quaint villages and along sparkling rivers. The tip to tip route from Tignish to Elmira totals over 270 kilometers but 400 kilometers of excellent rolled stone dust surface are available for use. Branch Trails extend into the heart of Charlotte-town and to the waterside communities of Souris, Georgetown, Montague, Wood Islands, Murray River, and Murray Harbour, plus the link to the Confederation Bridge in Borden-Carleton.

The Trail is nearly flat due to its origins as a railway line, and the fine crushed gravel surface makes it very easy to negotiate both on foot and on bicycle. As it passes through villages and towns, trekkers have a chance to stop, shop, have a snack and dine out. Watch for bright plum-colored gates which mark the various entry points. The Trail offers unlimited opportunities for nature lovers, artists, hikers, photographers, berry pickers, birders, and anyone looking for a nice place to spread a blanket for an afternoon picnic. So please, take the time to enjoy PEIs Confederation Trail.

    Island Trails

Habitat and Heritage are the focus of the trail experience on Prince Edward Island. Nature and Culture meet to create our unique landscape. Travelers to the Island and Islanders themselves have enjoyed the pastoral landscapes, woodlands and rivers between tiny Island communities for generations. Prince Edward Islands trails offer the chance to enjoy off the beath path sights, scents, and sounds. Trails offer an alternate perspective on the life of the island at a pedestrian pace if you know where and how to look.

  • Have you heard about the worlds longest trail? Its yours! The Trans Canada Trail is a multi-use trail network which, when connected, will span 22,500 kilometres from coast to coast to coast. Canadians have been planning, building, and supporting it for the past 20 years millions are using it now to get active, enjoy the outdoors, and discover our rich history and biodiversity.

The Trans Canada Trail attracts visitors from around the globe. Last year, National Geographic listed it as one of the worlds must-see destinations in One Hundred Journeys of a Lifetime. In 2010 the Trans Canada Trail was honoured with the prestigious Phoenix Award by the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW).

The Trans Canada Trail began in 1992 as a legacy project of Canadas 125th Anniversary. Over the past 20 years, this visionary idea has

grown into 16,500 kilometres of connected trail. Through the dedication and commitment of countless volunteers; generous donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations; and the support of all levels of government, the Trail is 6,000 kilometres away from being fully connected.

The remaining sections of trail 200 gaps across the country traverse some of Canadas most challenging terrain. In collaboration with its trail partners, the Trans Canada Trail has developed a detailed Connection Plan to meet these special demands. Our goal Connection 2017 echoes the spirit of celebration and pride from which the idea for this project was born. We will celebrate the connection of the Trail as we honour Canadas 150th Anniversary in 2017. Join us. tctrail.ca
