It is well suited for measuring in townsand densely populated areas, areas with heavy trafficloads or in areas where safe, accurate and quick manoeuvringis required, such as airports and testing of concreteslabs. Van-integrated FWD / HWD / SHWD

The FWD unit is well protected in the van and leaves room for further equipmentor even a small laboratory. Another possibility is to bring along the portable FWD,PRIMA 100. The combination of the traditional FWD equipment and the PRIMA 100light FWD allows in-situ quality control in connection with rehabilitation of pave-ments or new construction.

Safe and reliable systemGrontmij | Carl Bro attaches greatimportance to supplying safe and stableequipment and the newest technologyforms the basis of the FWD equipment.The PRIMAX software incorporatesalarms that are displayed on the compu-ter screen. If the operator ignoresvital warnings, certain functions cannotbe performed with the FWD e.g. inconnection with pavement temperaturemeasuring: After having inserted theasphalt temperature sensor in a hole inthe pavement, the sensor registerswhen the temperature is stable. Thetemperature is measured while theloading plate is placed on the pavementand cannot be raised before the tempe-rature sensor is placed in its holder. Theequipment cannot be driven to anotherposition with the loading plate downand strategically placed emergencyswitches allow the operator to stop theequipment at any time while operatingmanually.

Modular systemThe modular principle means that there is no need for investment in new equip-ment if the demands on the equipmentchange. All that is necessary is to upgrade the equipment from a standard 7-150 kN Falling Weight Deflectometer to a 7-250 kN Heavy Weight Deflecto-meter (HWD) or even to a Super Heavy Weight Deflectometer (SHWD) 7-300 kN is to add more weights, a lar-ger load cell and upgrade software.

Like all FWD equipment from Grontmij| Carl Bro the standard van-integratedFWD is supplied with personal compu-ter, Windows FWD software, timehistory module, transport lock, DMI (Di-stance Meter Indicator) integrated in thesoftware, three temperature sensors,four-split loading plate, 10 geophonesand warning lights. Additional functionscan easily be added such as video ormarking equipment, GPS (GeographicPositioning System), which enablespresentation of data in maps or generalplans of site.

For data treatment Grontmij | Carl Brosupplies RoSy DESIGN, a back-calcula-tion software for both road and/orairport data analysis. However, filesgenerated from the equipment canbe processed in any back-calculationprogram.

The 18 geophones are easily accessible andsimple to replace.

Multi-stop adjustable drop height ensures very accurate load configurations and pulse time. The four-split load plate allows full contact to

the surface and accurate measuring.
