Over the course of this week, you will be:exploring some instruction writing, looking at some new rich vocabulary, practising writing skills and writing your

own set of instructions!

TASK 1: Can I identify instruction writing features?

First, watch Mrs Wynne read our new text… from Incredible Edibles by Stefan Gates in video 1.

We will talk through the features together in video 1.

Task 2: Can I explore rich vocabulary?

Have a look at our new 6 rich vocabulary words and their definitions.

1. Can you match the words to their definitions? Write numbers 1 – 6 on the words and then match to their definitions.

2. Practise using these words by using some of the following activities:

- speed write - say it in a sentence - act it out - pyramid write - draw it - rainbow write- spell the word

3. Can you place the correct words into these 6 sentences? Write each sentence out in your book. Remember, some of the tenses of the words may need to change. Joanna had just finished ____________ her flowers.Joe hid quietly behind the curtain. __________, Laura was searching for him upstairs in the bedroom.He cupped the butterfly in his hands, holding it ___________.“Don’t touch it yet!” exclaimed Dad. “We need to wait for the glue to _________.”Using a paper clip, she _________ her photo to the competition form.The blue silk was _____________ with golden thread.

Task 3: Can I add detail to sentences?

When writing instructions, you need to be clear and precise for your reader to be able to follow them. Watch video 2 to see how you can add detail to your method section.

Method:First, cut a banana into pieces and add to the blender.Next, pull off the ends of the strawberries and add to the bananas.Then, put 150ml milk into the blender and add blueberries.After that, mix the mixture.Finally, pour your smoothie into a glass and enjoy.

Then, have a practise by up-levelling the sentences below. There is a word bank to help you too.

Task 4: Can I plan my instruction writing?

For your own set of instructions, you can choose from some of the activities you have completed over the last couple of weeks:
