SCHOOL CLOSURE DAILY LEARNING: Message for Parents Here are your tasks for today. Doing these daily tasks will help the children to keep focused and keep their brains sharp. Mornings tend to be the most productive learning time of the day for children so, setting up a routine from the beginning will hopefully reduce any resistance. If the daily routines and some maths and english tasks are completed in the mornings too, then the lighter topic work could be completed after lunch also freeing up afternoon time for exercise and fun. The daily maths, english and topic activities will be posted on Kingfishers web page. Much of the work uploaded online will be in worksheet format. You will not need to print out worksheets unless you want to. The children can work directly from screen into their books. On returning to school, the teachers will review the work the children have completed and plan for their next steps in learning. PHONICS This week we will look at the ‘l’ sound that is spelt with an ‘el’ at the end of a word.

These are words like enamel, squirrel, channel, tunnel, travel, towel, vowel etc.

To help you learn and spell these words there are some fun games to play here. Try to play a different one each day. Then you can have a go at the test.

'AR' Spelling Games

MATHS MassLearning Intent - To estimate and measure mass in grams accurately.

Today you are going to be estimating and weighing different objects. You will need some scales. If you haven’t got any scales then you can just leave the actual weight column blank but do try to estimate. You could then try to find out the answer on google kids to see if you were right.

Look at the table below and find some objects you would like to estimate and measure the weight of. You will be measuring lighter objects and focusing on grams today. Make sure the items you pick can actually fit on your scales.

Eg. You could choose objects such as a lego brick, tablespoon of sugar, remote control, a pound coin etc.

Remember – 1000 grams = 1kg

Challenge – these are optional.Complete the extra Scales worksheet.

ENGLISH NarrativeLearning Intent - To read a new story.

The story that you have been making predictions about is called THE BOG BABY. Today you will be reading this story. I have put the story on the website today so please try to open powerpoint/pdf version to read.

Remember – Sound out the words that are difficult in order to decode them. If it is too difficult to read ask an adult to read it to you but follow the text to aid your understanding.

Challenge – These tasks will be optional.

Watch the visual version of it here: THE BOG BABY

TOPIC GEOGRAPHY – To explore the seaside and understand the terms human and physical features.

This week we are going to focus all about the seaside. Read through and look at the powerpoint presentation to familiarise yourself with the things you might see at the seaside. Are the features Human (man-made) or Physical (natural)? Did someone build it or does it appear naturally in the envireonment?

Once you have done this complete the 2 worksheets and see how much you know about the seaside!
