Kindergarten
Well, what an exciting month it has been for our KG children. We
have been very busy with learning and taking part in some fun extra
activities. Firstly, we had our Sunny Day Picnic. I would like to thank
all of our parents for preparing the Sunny Day costumes. The children
had a great time having a picnic under the sun while eating their
breakfast. “Oh Mr Sun, Sun, Mr Golden Sun, please come down shine
on me……”.
Excitingly, we are going for a trip to Earthopia on February 24th. We are going to make raincoat for the
bears in Earthopia. This is the closure activity for the rain subtopic as we move on to another weather
type soon.
Primary School
In Year 2, we had a fun day of celebrating Chinese New Year in our classes. We learned about the
history, traditions and legends surrounding Chinese New Year. We even made a dragon together as a
class! We had a scrumptious pot luck lunch while dressed in our traditional clothes.
Our Year 3-6 students kick started the new year with Project Based Learning (PBL). It is an integration
of Science, History and Geography subjects. Students are given a real life problem and need to then
work on a solution. It will end with an exhibition at the end of the term, please keep your eyes out for
the date.
In Year 3, the topic for PBL is the “Australia Bushfire”. Students came up with their own big question,
“How do we help Australia recover from the bushfire?”

Students are very excited to grasp knowledge through different learning styles. The purpose of this PBL
is for learners to learn to use their critical thinking, problem solving and research skills as well as
working in a team to make a presentation. Some of the methods students will use to present the project
are model, diorama, poster or PowerPoint.
Year 4 students had an exciting start to term 2, with a field trip to
Sunway Wildlife Park on the 22nd of January. The trip was planned to
expose the students to their Project-Based Learning (PBL) regarding
Animal Habitat and Adaptation. Therefore, the students did not just go
for a simple field trip, they had a mission!
During the field trip, the students were given a fact-file sheet. To carry
out their tasks, the students had to choose any animal that they were
interested in. Then, they had to write the information they had obtained
regarding the animal on the fact-file sheet that was provided.
This field trip gave a great hands-on experience to the students with the
animals. They enjoyed many exciting moments on the trip, where they
were able to catch fish from a pond and experience feeding rabbits,
guinea pigs, tortoise and many other animals at the wildlife park.

Year 5 students had an interesting start to term 2 with Treasure Hunt,
in conjunction with PBL. The treasure hunt was conducted around the
school grounds, where they had to solve different problems based on
situations of ‘Life at sea’, using their knowledge from Science,
History, Geography lessons. At each station, students had to scan a QR
code to get clues for directions to the next station, only after providing
the solution. The hunt itself is a learning experience in reasoning,
cooperation and following directions/instructions. The treasure hunt
was amazing, the students lit up with excitement as they found one clue
and then figured out their way to the next one.
Year 6 students are all geared up into their Geography PBL project – ‘Zero Hunger’. They have been
diligently researching hunger issues and brainstorming innovative ideas to eradicate hunger. Surveys
are part of the project, where students had to identify people’s knowledge and opinions on hunger issues.
For the first time our students had been going around asking secondary school students, teachers and
family members to fill out the survey forms and interviewing them. This gave them a new experience
where they took learning out of class and went beyond researching with their gadgets. It also helped
them to build their communication skills.
We have just finished with our House Captain elections, some students having the courage to stand for
the house captain and vice captain elections. They bravely stood in front of their peers and gave
speeches. They were very persuasive and confident. The year 5 and 6 students voted for the candidate
who they thought would represent their house well. We are proud of each one of them as they took the
first step in being the leader that they aspire to be. Congratulations.
Year 6 students have been issued the Pearson Edexcel PLSC International Curricula Achievement
Test forms. These are compulsory exams and each student needs to fill in the form and make the
payment by the 20th February, 2020. We are offering the options of sitting for English and Mathematics
papers.

find their passion. In addition, it also enhances the school spirit by
giving students and staff opportunities to interact across year

Seesaw has now been launched across the school, from Kindergarten to Year 11. This is our main form
of communication between our parents and teachers. Please note that teachers will check it in the
morning before lessons start (7-7.10am) and again at the end of the day. They may not respond
immediately to your messages as they still have classes and they are not expected to respond after 4pm.
If you have an urgent matter, it is advisable to contact the main office.
If you have not yet registered for Seesaw, please download the ‘Seesaw’ app (Parent & Family) and then
request a link from your child/ren’s homeroom teacher.
