On Wednesday 20th March our Y5 and Y6 children, accompanied by teachers and parents, braved the freezing conditions to take part in the ‘Walk for Water’. Apart from the physical effort of completing the walk whilst carrying several litres of water the children raised a significant amount of money. Through sponsorship the children raised more than €5,000 which was matched by a donation from the water company ‘Hoogheemraadschap van Delfland’ of more than €5,000. The Government then contributed 80 percent to make a total of more than €18,000. Today we received an email from the Max Foundation thanking us for our efforts and I have included an extract below;

“We will be able to build water sanitation complexes at schools in Bangladesh and ensure that hundreds of students will have access to safe drinking water, clean toilets and essential education about hygiene. This prevents unnecessary diseases which lead to school absence or even worse, child mortality.”

On Thursday 21st of March the PTA organised the ‘Staff Appreciation Lunch’ in the Hungry Mind. Not only did the parents prepare a fantastic lunch and gifts for all the staff they also helped the Leadership Team supervise the children. I would like to pass on to all the parents who participated in any way the gratitude of all the staff. ISH is an amazing, caring community and it was yet another example of the mutual respect that exists between staff and parents.

Please make sure that you have signed up for the Parent Teacher consultations on 4th and 9th April, which provide an excellent opportunity for you to reflect on and discuss your child’s learning.

In an effort to make leaving school at the end of the day safer we will be asking the buses to pick up children from within the school grounds. The buses will line up in front of the school before 14:45 when the barriers will be raised to allow parents to enter in their cars. Could I please ask that if you do park in the school grounds that you do so for the shortest possible time and if you need to stay longer that you park in the car park.

I hope you all enjoy a relaxing and safe holiday weekend.

MusicMusic Activities at the ISH Primary In the past weeks a few exciting music events have taken place. On the Wednesday the 20th of March the ISH STRING ENSEMBLE performed a concert together with violin students of Elise ten Westenend (teacher at the PIVO and Young Koninklijk Conservatorium). It was a lovely evening concert. Apart from performances from the three Ensemble Pieces, we had the opportunity to hear some very advanced violin players alongside some of our young performers. From Year 2F, Carmen Tortosa played a beautiful solo accompanied by Maurice van Lieshout on the piano. Carrying on the “wall of fame” legacy, our own ISH PRIMARY ROCK performed in the Eistedfod competition and won the first prize for ensemble playing! This group, under the coordination of Mr. Fennis, only started in October has had a fast learning curve and rightfully won the prize with their performance of Rolling in the Deep, by Adele. Congratulations to them and also to Laura ten Berge and Kayra Ertekin,

Other events will take place in the coming months so please reserve the dates:

20th of April – ISH STRING ENSEMBLE PERFORMS AT THE INTERNATIONAL DAY22ND JUNE – PRIMARY SUMMER GALA CONCERT – this is meant as the final ISH PRIMARY CHOIR performance of the year (together with a Woodwind professional quartet). The STRING ENSEMBLE will perform on this day and some selected soloists. An Autumn Gala concert is being planned together with the Secondary music department. We are looking for a special venue outside school for the event, as soon as the dates are fixed we will announce via a newsletter.If your child is interested in joining either the ISH Primary Choir or the String Ensemble – please don’t hesitate and contact me. We are looking for more players to continue the great work and learning experience for our children. Thank you in advance for all your input.

Wishing you all a sunny Easter break,

Mrs. Titan
