ong ago there was an old woman who lived in a

small village. Her name was Mary. She loved

pets. One morning she heard a loud noise to

her surprise she saw a cute kitten sitting on her

roof. she took the kitten down and said "Oh so

cute! I like you so much”. She saw the kitten’s leg was hurt, she put some medicines on the wound and took care of the

kitten. Mary named him "Pony". Pony was very happy, he enjoyed playing with Mary. Mary already had few

pets, so Pony made some new friends. After few days, Mary went to meet

her friends, she was late in getting back home. During that time a thief had

come to Mary’s house and stole her food, she returned home hungry. Mary

noticed that someone had eaten her food. She said to herself "It is Pony who ate my

food!!" She shouted "Get out of my house now Pony!!!”. Pony was so sad he stood outside

her house crying "meowww meowww". The next day the same thief came to Mary’s house

to steal her food, this time Pony saw the man and he was crying loudly. The thief was

alarmed and he ran away- Mary saw this. Next day the thief was caught by the village

people. Mary realized her mistake and felt sad because Pony was innocent, she took

Pony and put on her lap and said "I am so sorry Pony, you are so kind, and you saved

my life”, and they lived peacefully ever after.

hail from the world-famous town named

Channapatna. It is famous for its wooden

craft and toys and hence the name “Toys

City” or in Kannada language called as

“Gombegala Ooru”.

The town is 60km away from the capital city of

Bengaluru, Karnataka. The town streets are lined with

very attractive and colourful toys that are made mainly of

wood and coloured using natural environment – friendly

dyes, which are safe for tender children’s hands.

With the advent of cheap plastic toys, the life of

artisans engaged in production of these wooden

toys are in threat. As we all know, plastic is not

eco-friendly and we should stop buying these

plastic toys; and encourage use of wooden toys

and make the mother earth plastic free. In turn

this would also help in betterment of artist’s life

and skill.
