The signposts

Tring Lions were approached by the Wendover Arms Trust to sponsor somenotices to guide walkers around a section of the Grand Union Canal which they

are currently renovating. The stretch of the canal being renovated runs throughBulbourne (near Tring) to Wendover and as this is a popular route for walkers, itwas very important that it was signposted.

The signs are now in place and clearly marked 'sponsored by LionsInternational'.

James Curtis, District 105A ‘s YoungAmbassador, sponsored by the LC of Milton

Keynes, Stony Stratford represented us at theMD Finals in Dudley at the end of February. He joined 12 fellow Young Ambassadors fromthe other MD Districts in a truly amazingweekend. The group of nine young womenand four young men are involved in a diverse, unselfish service to their local communities. They believe it is nothing unusual but each ofthem is very committed and unique.Strangers before Friday evening, but withinminutes lifelong friendships had beenformed. They worked and participatedtogether as a team. Each one encouragedtheir fellow Ambassadors as they were calledin for their Saturday interviews with theJudging Panel.

The Presentations on Sunday morningfrom all 13 candidates were witty, emotionaland profound. I do wish more Lions wouldattend one of these MD Finals – it’s a realeye opener. I was privileged and honored tosupport James at the MD Final in Dudleywhere he won the MD title – the First MDwinner for 105A in 25 years.

At Convention James addressed theaudience, thanking the Lions for theirencouragement and the exciting opportunityto showcase the AVUK Charity. He nowrepresents Stony Stratford Lions, District105A and our MD as our candidate at theEuropa Forum in Montreux in September.

The Young Ambassador is an excellentYouth Project which recognises andencourages the volunteer work ofexceptional 15-19 year olds in ourcommunities – There are many young peoplein our District doing wonderful things forothers. It's just that they live in the shadowof a well-publicised anti-social minority. Thesearch for our 2017-2018 candidates startsNOW. I am available to help and advice –Please contact me.

Since our Convention in March, it has been a very busy timefor me for the past three months. I had the honour of

attending Charter celebrations of Lions Clubs of Ruislip, StoneyStratford, Harpenden, Thame and District, Acton, Harrow andPinner, Hornsey and the first charter of Redbridge. All theCharter celebrations were very enjoyable, especially with Thameand District having a theme Charter. I thank all the clubs for theirhospitality and warm welcome given to both Balbir and me.In between my official club visits to around tenclubs and few with new Lions inductions, my visitto Palace of Westminster, Zone C‘s 25th swimminggala, Zone B Centennial Activity Day, LC of FairlopVaisakhi fund raising event and Zone E social, weremost enjoyable.

I was very sad to attend the funerals of LionJiten Joshi of LC Edgware, Lion Batuk ManojMadlani of Kingsbury, Lion Colin Howlett of LCAylesbury, Meera Paul wife of PCC Lion Viresh Paul,Lion Dr. Lion Terence Hubert Jones of LC Feltham &Whitton and Lion Doreen Freeman of BletchleyMilton Keynes.

Our final Multiple District Council of Governorsmeetings took place over 5 days from 19th to 24thApril, in Blackpool during the MD Convention. Icongratulate PCC Lion Geoff Leeder for beingelected to be the next International Director from our MD 105for the years 2018-2020. As a District Governor and particularlyin this Centennial year, I am very proud to have an InternationalDirector elected from our District 105A. Resolution forredistricting to 8 Districts was approved by the Convention andthe new Districts will be operational from 2019.

On 14th May we visited Thorpe Park with disabled anddisadvantaged children. As you all know this is our secondCentennial Legacy Project, the first being Message in a Wallet. Ithank Lion Satnam Singh Loyal for taking up the challenge andorganising this event and ensuring its success.

I had my final half day Cabinet meeting on 21st May. It wasgreat to see most of the Cabinet officers at the meeting. Therewas great deal of Lions business conducted and it was a livelymeeting. And we still managed to finish in good time for lunch. The month of May ended with my 3 days visit to Poland for theirDistrict 121 Convention. They are our twin District and I wasaccompanied by PDG Lion Max and his wife Aruna. The visit waseducational and extremely enjoyable, with representatives from

Germany, Estonia, Lithuania and Israel. I was fortunate enough tomeet few Lions who were in the same training school with me.We had the opportunity to visit and see the Hospice for theterminally ill, for which we as a District are collecting £7500 asour share to bring the completed building in to operation. Lionsof Poland gave us a very warm welcome with tremendoushospitality. A superb time was had by us all.

With Lions Centennial Birthday approaching on the 7th June2017, I wish all the Lions a happy Lions Birthday.
