The palate is medium-bodied with good depth for a deuxième vin, the 30% new oak nicely integrated with good depth and grip on the graphite and spice-tinged finish. The 2015 Marquis d'Alesme Becker is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3%

Petit Verdot and 7% Cabernet Franc that was cropped at 35 hl/ha between 28 September

and 15 October. Matured in 65% new oak, it has a precocious bouquet with opulent violet-

tinged cassis fruit that needs to find a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied

with grippy tannin, plenty of depth with a crisp line of acidity, with impressive density on the

Château Brisson is situated in Belvès de Castillon on the north bank of the Dordogne east of Saint-Emilion. Since 1980 the property has been owned by Paul Valade and comprises 18 hectares of mainly Merlot vines which average 30 years of age. Harvesting is done by hand. Yields are kept low and are strictly managed and everything possible is done to enhance the biodiversity of the soil. Winemaking includes pre-fermentation maceration at cool temperatures, gravity flow transfer, gentle pneumatic pressing and so on. The wines are aged in French oak barrels.

A reliable cru bourgeois producing wines in a classic style, with 40 hectares under vine on

Chateau les Hauts Conseillants is the dream of a tenacious man. In 1973, Leopold Figeac decided to restore the 4ha estate in Lalande de Pomerol. Later he purchased another 6 ha with his daughter and son in law. All his efforts have been justified since the Domaine is now well regarded in the appellation and is still run by his grand son Jean Baptiste Bourotte.

Lanessan is a benchmark for Haut-Médoc. Winemaker Paz Espejo has been in charge since

2009, the 45 hectares of vineyards adjoin AOC Saint-Julien, and average 40 years of age on

average. Very expressive aromas of ripe, candied cherry, liquorice and fresh tobacco,

tannins both soft but satisfyingly full.

One of the oldest producers of wine in the Haut-Medoc Back with a history dating back to

the late 17th Century. 35 hectares with around 30 years average, densely planted at 5,000

and 7,000 vines per hectare and grown on deep and gravelly soil. Cambon produces

elegant wines with a bold colour but finesse on the nose, structured tannins and good

length.

‘The 2015...offers plenty of blackberry and raspberry fruit on the nose, not the best defined

that I encountered among the Haut-Médocs, but with plenty of "stuffing." The palate is

medium-bodied with supple red and black fruit on the entry matched with a fine thread of

acidity. There is a pleasing crescendo in the mouth driven by that Merlot content and it

Taking the highest proposition of first wine (55%) for several years and a good yield of 45hl/ha. The fruit and tannins reached full and perfect ripeness and the structure shows incredible cohesion, easily approaching the quality of the 2010 but with softer tannins. Beautifully complete with great integrity of coffee grounds and rich damson fruit. Opens up in the glass, the personality and complexity ripples through. A touch lower alcohol than La Mission at 14.9%abv and with 3.73pH for fresh balance. 58% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 78% new oak.
