After School Clubs

In order to provide an enriched learning environment for our students, Isenberg Elementary offers an After School Clubs program for students in grades 3-5. Volunteer staff members and parents meet with club members after school twice monthly from 3:30-4:30 pm. Upcoming club dates are November 17 and 24, and December 8 and 15. Clubs and advisors are listed below:

Dear Isenberg Family,

It is such an honor to say that we have had a great year thus far and I look forward to several great experiences for the remainder of the year. Our first quarter has been very successful with all students participating in!Guided Reading lessons, PBLs, the weather balloon launch as well as other fun events outside of the instructional day such as Movie Night, Fall Festival and After School Clubs. I am always glad to see learning going on where students are participating and leading the activities. To our wonderful students I say, “You are all leaders in your own right and I ask that you continue to strive to be the best ‘Investi-GATORs’ of knowledge that you can be.” As always, GO GATORS!! Live Salisbury Skies: Constellations of the Season

D.R.E.A.M. GirlsAdvisors: Mrs. Richardson and Ms. Arnold

D.R.E.A.M. Girls was created to promote self worth, self esteem, and empowerment in young girls through hands on activities, conversation, community service, and mentoring.!The goal of D.R.E.A.M. Girls is to give young girls an opportunity to explore the essence of themselves as well as the world around them. Through interactive workshops, team building exercises, community service projects, and extra curricular activities the D.R.E.A.M. Girls will be able to be assertive in who

they are and their role in the community.

This year, the D.R.E.A.M Girls sponsored a sock drive for Rowan Helping Ministries called “Socktober,” sold candy apples and other snacks at the Fall Festival, participated in the Livingstone College Homecoming Parade and held a car wash with proceeds benefitting the Susan G. Komen organization. They will be making a check presentation to the Charlotte Affiliate of Susan G. Komen Foundation during the awards ceremony.!

Congratulations to the 2014-15 Battle of the Books Team! Team members include Kaoly Pineda-Mercado, Natavia Reid, Amber Bostian, Khishana Sonawa, Julian Beltran, Alexander Diaz, Michelle Cartwright, Adamma Anukwuem, Kirstyn Mason, Alaina Lopez, and Maxwell Meaway.

These students will compete in the county semi-finals on March 10. According the the North Carolina School Library Media Association, the purpose of the Elementary Battle of the Books program is to encourage reading by all students at the elementary school level.The Rowan-Salisbury Schools is celebrating One District, One Book. All students and staff are encouraged to read Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein. Lots of festivities surrounding this literacy-based initiative have already taken place. These included a lock-in at the Rowan County Public Library for essay contest winners and an author visit at Patterson Farms. Here at Isenberg, there will be a Family Night on December 4 where we’ll play “Lemoncello Bingo!” (Join the conversation using Twitter #rssodob. Find out more at http://www.rssreads.com)Congratulations to 5th Grader Kirstyn Mason! Kirstyn was one of 14 elementary school winners from Rowan-Salisbury Schools to win the Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library writing contest! Students enjoy several valuable online resources through the state of North Carolina and through Rowan-Salisbury Schools and the Rowan County Public Library. These resources include NC Wiseowl (encyclopedias and other reference tools), NCLive (Proquest databases and more), digital magazines through Zinio, Big Universe (ebooks), and Follett Shelf (ebooks). Students may ask their teachers or Mrs. Puckett for passwords to these services.

Parent Teacher Association“Our vision is to make every child’s potential a reality.”

Isenberg’s PTA supports school-based programs, educational and social events, building and ground enhancements, while encouraging a closer school community bond among students, parents and faculty. PTA dues

are $10 per person. The PTA extends an open invitation to monthly meetings, held at 5:00 pm every 1st Monday of each month.Upcoming PTA events include a Fall Program on November 20.A big THANK YOU to our PTA for a wonderful Fall Festival on October 23. This event is always well-supported by our school community and, as usual, the weather was beautiful!

K-Kids, a service organization for

elementary students, is in its 4th year at Isenberg. Fifth graders are eligible to join this service club based on teacher recommendation and by filling out an application. K-Kids meets two Wednesdays a month at 7:35 am.

In past years, Isenberg K-Kids have raised funds to benefit Rowan Helping Ministries, participated in Relay for Life, and helped serve tables at the Kiwanis Pancake Festival.

Student Government AssociationThe Isenberg SGA meets each month in the Media Center. Student representatives from each K-5 classroom attend meetings and complete various leadership and service rolls for the school. The SGA advisor is Mrs. Puckett. A Note from Ms. MuñozIsenberg’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Program is sponsoring a Reading Contest! Throughout the school year, ESL students will bring home a reading log and contract. Students are encouraged to read every day for 20 minutes or more.!There was a workshop for the parents of ESL students on October 10. Parents joined with Ms. Munoz and Ms. Basso to learn about parent/student literacy and reading instructional activities.
