Preview of Crushing Small Stakes Poker Tournaments, Volume 2

Rather than tell you about my Kindle book, Crushing Small Stakes Poker Tournaments, Volume 2, I created this PDF

to let you experience it for yourself.

This PDF contains 5 complete hand examples taken from the book. The book contains 50 hand examples taken from small

stake, fast structured tournaments.

If you want to become a large winner at the game, you must learn to think for yourself. My book is laid out so you can

think about the play you would make before going to the next page, where my actual play is revealed.

You should spend a lot of time thinking about each and every decision in order to come up with your answer, as well as the

reason for your answer, before looking at my answer. If your answer differs from mine, try to figure out why.

My Kindle book, which includes 50 complete hand examples, is available on Amazon:

http://amzn.com/B00BWDD3D0

You can read my Kindle book on your PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, or Android device.

If you would like to personally ask me questions, I host a live webinar each month at my training site, FloatTheTurn.com.

Pre-Flop Bets Call 20 Call 20 Call 20

Hero’s action: Hero limps.

Strategic Concept: Implied Odds

Analysis: The tournament is in the Early Stage. Typically, you want to start out playing tight aggressive and as

the stacks get shorter, you need to play a few more hands in position, hoping to steal the blinds with a wide range.

87s is a great hand to see a cheap flop with. Hero gets in for 20 chips but even if there was a raise to 60, he would

call to see a flop because hands like 87s, also called suited connectors, flop very well.

Pre-Flop Bets Call 30 Raise

to 150

Hero’s action: Hero raises to 150 chips.

Strategic Concept: Isolation Raise

Analysis: The tournament is in the Early Stage. TT is a good hand but it does not do particularly well post-flop

in a multi-way pot. Hero wants to make the standard raise to 5BBs, which is 3BBs plus 1BB when there are

limpers plus 1BB for each limper (5BBs = 3BBs + 1BB + 1BB). Notice this raise is a little more than a pot sized

raise, which is usually ideal.

Push

Hero’s action: Hero pushes.

Strategic Concept: Easy Push

Analysis: The tournament is in the Middle Stage. The only question is how to get all the money in. The button will be pot committed, needing less than 30% equity to break even, when Hero pushes, meaning he will call Hero’s push basically every time. There is no need to slowplay preflop when your opponent will almost always call a push. The last thing you want to happen is to see a flop and have the Button get scared out of the hand when he has something like JJ on a flop of KQ7 or AQ on K85.

Situation 012

Game: Short Stack MTT Players Remaining: 110

Blind Level: 5 75/150 Blinds: 225 Antes: 0

Position UTG +1 empty MP HJ CO Button SB BB

Hero’s Hand K9o

Hero’s Hand K9o

Starting Stacks 1122 1400 870 1683 1820 3655 2735 4160

Pre-Flop Bets Raise

to 400

Hero’s action: Hero raises to 400, planning to fold to a push.

Strategic Concept: Dead Money

Analysis: The tournament is in The Middle Stage. Hero can’t fold this hand because it is too strong and the pot

is too small to justify the risk of a push. Calling is just inviting a bluff resteal, which Hero can’t defend well

against. This opponent has not shown any amount of aggression so far, meaning he will be unlikely to bluff Hero

off his hand by reraising, making a raise to 400 the best play.

Situation 017

Response 017

Hero’s Hand Q7o

Starting Stacks 4708 3540 6760 2818 6760 5770 2196 7279

Pre-Flop Bets Fold

Hero’s action: Hero folds.

Strategic Concept: Easy Fold

Analysis: The tournament is In the Middle Stage. This hand is too weak and Hero’s stack is too deep to push.

Hero has substantial tournament equity and there is no reason to gamble. A raise to 4BBs would invite a resteal

and Hero would have to fold if a large stack pushed. A min-raise would allow Hero to fold to a big stack’s push

but Hero would be getting the odds to call the short stack. The best option is to fold and wait for a better

situation.
