1. Summary - Annual General Meeting (AGM) – 18.10.2014

Thank you to all the members who attended the AGM at the clubhouse and thank you for all the proxies and nomination forms received. Lex Krabbendam welcomed all present; the minutes of the 2013 AGM meeting were read adopted as correct.

Our treasurer Jeanne Wentzel, presented the financial reports; which showed a small profit; the members present adopted these statements unanimously as true and correct.

We continued with the proposal for the annual membership fees 2015 (principal = R 470, add. family member = R 80, pensioners = R 415, joining fee R 30) which were approved.

The updated Constitution was also approved by all present. An amendment to incorporate some small additions to comply with SARS regulations for non-profit organizations will be incorporated.

The report of the chairman followed; Lex elaborated on the general difficulties facing the hobby and the clubs in SA and highlighted the good spirits and camaraderie currently experienced at the clubhouse. He thanked everybody for the trust placed in him during the past 6 ½ years as chairman and thanked the committee and duty members for all their support during this time. Special thanks went to Will, Ockie, Hendrik and Willem for their efforts with the club’s machinery; to Bernard for all the extra stand-in duties, and again to Willem for the tremendous amount of public relations work done resulting in many new members joining.

He also thanked the outgoing committee members Di de Villiers, Beatrice Enslin and Stephan de Beer for all their work and time assigned to the club. Stephan has kindly agreed to continue his tasks as webmaster for the club, for which we are very grateful.

Bernard in turn thanked Lex for all his years of service devoted to PGMC.

This was followed by the election of the following new committee 2014/2015:

Linda Stone (President of FOSAGAMS) thanked Lex and Di for the many years of service as chairman and secretary respectively and congratulated Bernard, Willem and Elmarie for being elected into their new positions. Stella-Marie Laredo, thanked the committee and members present for keeping the club alive and growing from the meager beginnings in somebody’s garage to the wonderful clubhouse, facilities and group of people we have today. Stella-Marie and Jean Schutz are PGMC members since 1965 and serve on the club’s duty-team for more than 40 years! What an achievement ladies! This positive and motivational note concluded the AGM 2014.

2. Live Auction – 18.10.2014

Lex invited all present to the Live Auction outside. Tables full of lapidary slabs, rocks, minerals, tumbled stones, as well as second-hand tools, motors and machinery donated by previous and present members were “up for grabs” (photo below left and right).

Willem our trusted auctioneer assisted by Lex and Jeanne quickly had the auction fever going; everybody enjoyed their antics and contributed generously (photo middle left and right).

Photo above left – identifying specimens together; everybody participating and making sure they do not miss out on their selected items. Photo right – the ladies relaxing, Jean Schutz, Karin Mayerl, Stella-Marie Laredo and Di de Villiers (from left to right). All photos courtesy of Dieter Heinichen and Heidi Naudé.

Bernard lit the braai fires and perfectly grilled the club sponsored boerewors for all to enjoy with fresh rolls, sauces and a glass of wine. What a way to end a perfect day at the clubhouse – thanks to everybody for their participation and contributions.

On Saturday, 4 October we celebrated Daphne Alp’s 90th Birthday at the clubhouse! Daphne is a keen lapidarist, polishing agates to absolute perfection, creating the most beautiful gemstone butterflies, making gemstone boxes of all shapes and sizes, and last but not least designing and making gemstone lamps (for which she even won an award in America!). There is nothing stopping this lapidary enthusiast and she keenly shares her stories and experiences with the younger generation at the clubhouse. Daphne we wish you all the best for the years to come – most of all good health and lots of energy to enjoy your hobby (photos Heidi Naudé).
