The preterit is a form of the simple past tense in Spanish. It
is used when an action is completed in the past. There are three
keys to using the preterit tense. First, use the preterit when you
say exactly when an event took place. For example, Yesterday I went
to the supermarket. Second, use the preterit when you include for
how long an event occurred. For example, I went to the supermarket
for two hours. Third, use the preterit when you dont include any
information about when the event happened. For example, I went to
the

Here you can see how to conjugate the different types of verbs
into the preterit tense. First, the AR verbs these are conjugated
e, aste, o, amos, asteis, aron. For example: hablar: hable,
hablaste, hablo, hablamos, hablasteis, hablaron. Second, the ER
verbs these are conjugated i, iste, io, imos, isteis, ieron. For
example: comer: comi, comiste, comio, comimos, comisteis, comieron.
Third, the IR verbs these are conjugated i, iste, io, imos, isteis,
ieron. For example: vivir: vivi, viviste, vivio, vivimos,
vivisteis, vivieron. There are two important tips to remember.
First, the ER and IR conjugations are exactly the same: yo = -i.
Second, the conjugations are similar across the subject columns:
