What is the PED/PER

Pressure Equipment Directive/Requirements are dictates of the law which make it

an offence for any “responsible” person(s) to place on the market, put into service

or otherwise supply pressure equipment and assemblies above specified

pressure/volume thresholds unless:

They are safe

Meet essential safety requirements covering design, manufacture and testing

Satisfy appropriate conformity assessment procedures and are accompanied by

a declaration of conformity

They carry a CE marking and other information in English

PERs apply to the design, manufacture and conformity assessment of pressure equipment and assemblies of pressure equipment with a maximum allowable pressure greater than 0.5 bar.

Type of Pressure Equipment• Vessels• Piping• Pressure accessories • Safety accessories

Condition of Fluids• Toxic, Explosive, Flammable or Oxidizing (Group 1)• All other fluids including Steam (Group 2)

How to ensure compliance• Ascertain the fluid type and type of pressure equipment being

manufactured.• Using the table below, classify the pressure equipment

• Go to the appropriate chart, and determine the category of the pressure equipment.

• Before hand, know the nominal size (DN) and maximum allowable working pressure for the equipment
