All streets south of Harrison should be open to traffic by the middle ofOctober.

The 11th Street traffic pattern has changed to the west side of the road as work has switchedto paving the east side of the roadway. Alton Avenue is now closed at the 11th Streetintersection. Hanson Street is now open to traffic from Harrison Avenue, and 20th Street isalso open to traffic with one lane in each direction with a dedicated turn lane. Please followall detours. Temporary lane closures may occur during these periods. Please expect delays.

If discolored water occurs, it is not a health hazard. However, during any flushingprocedures, iron (red water) and manganese (black water) may become stirred upwithin the water main, which can create staining on the porcelain and laundry. Thiswork may result in the disturbance of sediment, possibly containing lead. It is advisedthat you flush your water lines for 1 – 2 minutes once work is completed in your areaincluding removing and cleaning faucet aerator screens to remove sediment. For thisreason it is vital that the public be aware of the time and area that will be affected. Ifthere are any Water Quality questions, please contact water quality at the numberlisted.

For a detailed map of hydrant flushing locations and when staff will be working inspecific neighborhoods, please visit the City’s web site at:http://rockfordil.gov/public-works/water-division/hydrant-flushing.

City of Rockford Annual Fire Flow Testing Program Update

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The City of Rockford began its annual fire flow testing program onMonday, September 25, 2017. Flow testing occurs Monday through Friday between the hoursof 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The City of Rockford implements a fire flow testing program annually to ensure that our firehydrants flow with adequate pressure in the event of a fire.

Customers are advised that they may experience discolored water during flow testing. Whilenot a health hazard, flushing iron (red water) or manganese (black water) may become stirredup within the main which may create staining on porcelain and laundry.

This work may result in the disturbance of sediment, possibly containing lead. It isrecommended that customers flush their water lines for 1 – 2 minutes once work iscompleted in their area including removing and cleaning faucet aerator screens to removesediment.

We anticipate that this program will last for approximately 6 weeks.

You may refer to the attached map to view progress. The green hydrants represent those thathave been tested. The boxed area represents the area where the crew is currentlyconcentrating efforts.

Water quality questions and concerns may be directed to the Water Quality Section at 779-348-7151.
