    Thecountrysleadingsupplierofsolarpowersystems,SolarShopAustralia,hasrepeatedcallsforaunifiedsolarfeed-inschemetohelpmeetthenationsrenewableenergytargets

    andfosterasustainablesolarindustry.

    SpeakingattheCleanEnergyConferenceinMelbourneyesterday(Wednesday4May)-

    SolarShopAustraliaChiefExecutiveOfficer,TonyThornton,saiditwastimeAustralia

    embracedasolarfeed-inschemethatrewardedallgeneratorsofelectricityequallyand

    continuedtobuildthesolarindustrytobeindependentlycostcompetitivewithcoalby

    2015.

    TheinternationalracetoinstallrenewableenergyisstillbeingrunanditisnottoolateforAustraliatodevelopanindustrythatcancreatejobs,fosterresearchandleadtechnical

    advancementratherthanlosingvaluableintellectualcapitaltoplaceslikeChina,Mr.

    Thorntonsaid.

    Centraltoachievingthisisacoordinatedandsustainablefeed-intariffthatpaysany

    generatorofsolarelectricityafixedamount.Thebenefitsofsuchaschemehavealready

    beensuccessfullyimplementedoverseas.

    MrThorntonpointedtoGermany,whichadoptedacomprehensivefeed-intariffthatnot

    onlysparkedwidescale,sustainabledeploymentofsmallandlarge-scalesolarsystemsacrossthecountry,buthasalsobuiltanindustrythattodaycontributestoamassive60per

    centofGDPexport.

    TheaveragesizeofahouseholdsolarsysteminAustraliais2.1kWcomparedtothe

    GermanaverageofmorethandoublethatandthisisdespiteAustraliahavingthethird

    highestpercapitaelectricityusageofanycountryonearth,Mr.Thorntonsaid.

    ThisisduetothecurrentdesignofAustraliasvaryingincentiveschemes.Aunifiedfeed-in

    tariffwouldencouragehouseholdstopurchaselargersystemsthatmeetalloftheir

    electricityrequirementsandnotjustearnthemarebate

    Onalargerscale,commercialandutilityscalesolarprogramsaresadlyalmostnon-existent

    inAustraliaand,overthecomingyears,seriousreductionsinbrownelectricitywillrequire

    infrastructurescalerenewableprojectstoberolledoutandfundedfromacombinationof

    debtandequity.

    Alongtermsustainablepolicythatincludesaunifiedfeed-inschemewillreduceriskand

    promotemediumtolongtermthinkingthatisrequiredtoencourageinvestmentin

    technologiessuchassolar,andgaintheattentionandtractionofbankingandfinance

    sectors.
