Businesses offered free post-Brexit progression planning advice

A FAMILY-run recruitment consultancy is offering free one-hour advice sessions to help Lincolnshire businesses looking to grow in a competitive, post-Brexit environment.

Vickers Neal Recruitment Solutions Ltd has been providing businesses with personal and tailor-made recruitment services for the past 10 years and has a 100% success rate when it comes to filling vacancies with the right people.

Emily Neal, who started the company with her mum Alex Vickers in 2006, is offering the free consultations to help businesses identify the most cost effective methods of achieving their expansion goals.

“We offer a full range of recruitment solutions for our clients, from basic advertising packages to full recruitment management,” Emily said.

“Part of our personalised service includes free recruitment planning where we visit clients and talk about how they can prepare for future growth and react to economic changes. This includes looking at the skills and experience available in the workforce, salary expectations, how to create job descriptions, the best places to advertise, interviewing techniques and ways to retain their current and future workforce.”

Emily, who has been in the recruitment industry for 17 years, started her own business after being made redundant in 2005. She had just returned from honeymoon and bought her first house with her husband.

“I remember the despair I felt at that time,” Emily said. “I went to work at a high street agency for a few months and soon became very disillusioned with the process as I felt it had become less personal and more sales based. I also thought the fees being charged were far too high.

“I felt I could do a much better job and decided to set up on my own. I went into partnership with my mother and initially worked from the spare bedroom at home. I do not use traditional models of agency recruitment as I felt they were often priced too high for typical SMEs.”

Rather than operating purely on commission based structures, Emily also offers fixed prices based on different levels of services and uses an honest and straightforward approach focused entirely on finding the right person for each role. This involves building relationships with candidates and taking time to understand the culture and working practices of each business.

And it is an approach that has served Vickers Neal Recruitment Solutions well, for Emily is currently filling around 10 vacancies a month and has dozens of repeat clients on her books.

Being her own boss has also fit in with family life as Emily is now mother to two daughters, who have grown alongside the business.

“I do work long hours to fit around the family, but this means I have never missed a school play and my children have become part of the business really; clients are always asking about them. It also means I can be flexible around my clients’ requirements, and if someone needs to be interviewed during the evenings or weekends, then it’s not a problem.”

Emily’s experience covers a variety of industries, including, but not limited to, technical, manufacturing, agricultural, interior design and service providers. She also does a lot of work in the charity sector, offering discounted rates for not-for-profit organisations.
