Gulf Photo Plus Photography Festival March 7-‐14, 2014 Dubai Knowledge Village www.gulfphotoplus.com Gulf Photo Plus is participating in the inaugural Dubai Food Festival, taking place across the Emirate from 21st February to 15th March 2014. Coinciding with the 10th edition of Gulf Photo Plus’ world-‐famous annual photography festival, GPP2014 (March 7th – 14th), Gulf Photo Plus will host a series of exciting food photography, styling and writing workshops, seminars and events as an extension of the Dubai Food Festival. Gulf Photo Plus, the region’s premier photography training organisation, is collaborating with Dubai Food Festival to offer foodies the chance to improve their food photography skills under the expert guidance of Los Angeles-‐based internationally renowned food photographer, writer and blogger Matt Armendariz (www.mattbites.com). Gulf Photo Plus at Dubai Food Festival -‐ Highlights Launching the activities will be a Food Styling Seminar ‘The Culinary Art of Food for Photography’ with locally based food stylist, Fiona Archibold. During the session, Fiona will discuss the role of the food stylist in creating stunning food photography. Moreover, she will share her secrets, tips and tricks on how to make ordinary food

dishes look sumptuous and delicious with a variety of tools and techniques. The session will be held at Gulf Photo Plus space in Alserkal Avenue on March 3rd (19:00 – 20:30). The Food Styling Seminar is free of charge and open to all, but prior registration is required. Part of GPP2014’s famous PhotoFriday event (March 7th) will be Matt Armendariz’s seminar How to Make Delicious Food Photos With Your Smartphone. Whether you share your photos on Instagram, develop recipes, blog, or just share with friends and family, in this 90-‐minute session, Matt will discuss what makes a great food photo as seen through the lens of a smartphone. This affordable seminar (at 50 AED only) is open to all who like to eat and have a smartphone! In partnership with Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, Armendariz will also present a seminar on Great Writing and Food Writing for Bloggers (March 7th, 18:00 – 20:30), where he will share invaluable advice for food bloggers and writers based on his 18 years in the food business and success as a food writer and photographer. The event will be free to attend, but prior online registration is required. Finally, for intermediate photographers wishing to dramatically improve their skills in the specialised discipline of food photography, Armendariz will run a 2-‐day In-‐Depth Food Photography Workshop (March 9th and 10th). Participants in this unique workshop will learn about the key ingredients of a food photography shoot, from composition to lighting, props and retouching techniques as well as exploring current and past food photography trends to understand what makes a successful, emotionally engaging and mouthwatering image. Guest Speaker – Matt Armendariz Matt Armendariz is a photographer, writer, avid traveler and blogger that specializes in food, drink and tasty spots all over the world. His food blog www.mattbites.com, was voted as one of the Top 10 Food Blogs in the World by London’s Times Online and has also been selected by GOOP’s Gwyneth Paltrow as one of her 10 favourite food blogs.
