"Lew Schwartz and Dick Giordano's . . . Moby Dick is a wonderful introduction to a difficult book. Bravo!" — Ray Bradbury "Not since John Huston, Gregory Peck, and Ray Bradbury joined hands for the film version has anyone done this much good for Herman Melville's seafaring classic! My hope is that this is the first in a long line of illustrated classics from Houghton Mifflin. It follows in a grand tradition and, to be candid, is far better illustrated than its predecessors. And the fact that it's published simultaneously in hardcover and paper can only add to its audience." — Jim Trelease for Trelease-on-Reading.com About the Book Killing a sixty-ton sperm whale that could destroy a boat with a flick of its massive tail was no easy task. About the Author

Lew Sayre Schwartz began his career as an artist during the golden age of cartooning, working on such well-known comics as Batman, The Saint, and Secret Agent X-9. He went on to write and direct many award-winning productions for film, television, and the theater, including collaborations with Stanley Kubrick on Dr. Strangelove and with Jerome Robbins. Mr. Schwartz has been honored with four Emmy Awards and six Clio Awards. He now lives on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, where he enjoys watching whales as well as writing about them.

Dick Giordano has enjoyed a career spanning five decades, specializing in all forms of graphic storytelling, both in print and for film and television. From 1980 to 1993, he served as vice president and creative director at DC Comics, a major comic book publisher. He has also taught sequential illustration courses at Parsons School of Design, Kubert's School of Cartoon Art, and Syracuse University. Though he never seriously considers retirement, Dick now resides in Florida, disguised as a beach bum.

Praise for Moby Dick

"The great white resurfaces in this gripping, comic book-style retelling. Comic strip veterans Schwartz and Giordano condense Melville's leviathan tale into an action-packed, 48-page adventure." — Publishers Weekly

"Inked in oceanic blues and sandy shades, the cool-toned illustrations deepen and enrich the story. The non-uniform panels and changes of page layout add drama, but the real excitement comes from Schwartz's retelling . . . [which]

captures the highlights of the plot." — VOYA

"For young readers, there can be no better introduction to [Moby Dick] than this high-quality adaptation, which leaves all the excitement of the story in place without the symbolism, which, frankly, they can read and appreciate when they are older." — Cape Cod Times
