LTC FELIX RONNIE B BABAC, the Battalion Commander of 73IB said that the President himself awarded 2LT JERSON F SANCHEZ (INF) PA during the commencement exercise of the PMA Class 2015 in Baguio City. 2LT SANCHEZ, a member of PMA Class 2014, take pride of receiving the prestigious award being a rookie in the field of military service. The young Army Officer was awarded because of his gallantry in action during an encounter with more or less forty (40) members of lawless armed group of NPA in Brgy Datal Anggas, Alabel, Sarangani Province that resulted to the recovery of nine (9) high powered firearms and the death of seven (7) NPA members including a seasoned communist leader Tolentino Bariquit alyas Brigol. In the succeeding days, eleven (11) more members from the group surrendered and one of them brought with him a high powered firearm. Pursuit operation yields another high powered firearm in the neighboring barangay.

2nd Highest Military award bestowed to an Officer of 73IB by President Aquino

President Aquino awarded 2LT SANCHEZ in front of the graduating PMA Class 2015 to set an inspiration to the young officers to dedicate themselves in service to the people and in securing the nation.

LTC BABAC further said that he takes pride of the achievement of 2LT SANCHEZ who will be the example of many young officers in doing their job excellently. He extends his congratulations to 2LT SANCHEZ on behalf of the officers, men and women of the 73IB.

LTC BABAC further said that the other soldier involved in the February 16 2015 encounter were awarded with Military Merit Medal Interim to Gold Cross Medal by no less than the Commanding General of the Philippine Army, LTGEN HERNANDO DCA IRIBERRI AFP who came over the battalion headquarters of 73IB in Malita, Davao Occidental all the way from Manila last February 27, 2015 just to pin the award.
