Chester’s Glass – bringing the Borowski Collection of outdoor glass art to the UK From nature’s raw materials to crystal clear beauty, there’s something magical about glass. Chester’s Glass, working closely with the Borowski family, bring the unique outdoor glass art to the UK – the rich designs, colours and textures combine beautifully with any garden and outdoor space. Borowski glass is easily identified due to its vivid colours and distinct style. Each piece is a special, unmistakable, life-affirming art concept, which has been created with love, passion and perfection.

The rich art heritage of the Borowski CollectionsThe Borowski family has contributed significantly to the Studio Glass Movement, with head of the family, Stanislaw Borowski, gaining international recognition in the 1970s with his engravings and sculptures. In 1990, Stanislaw opened Glasstudio Borowski in Lower Silesia, Poland. From its humble beginnings as a small glass workshop, today, it ranks as one of the most acclaimed artistic glass studios in the world – a journey taken up by Stanislaw’s sons – Pawel, Wiktor and Stani Jan.

Many of the unique glass art pieces collections are on display in palaces and public gardens across the world – extensive private collections can be found all over Europe, USA, Canada, Central America, Australia, Japan, China and Korea. Botanical gardens from Bonn and Dortmund in Germany to Flamingo Gardens in Miami have large Borowski Glass collections. You can also see Borowski Glass on permanent displays in the world’s leading museums including: The Corning Museum of Glass in New York (USA), Imagine Museum Petersburg, Florida (USA), the Mesée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the National Museum of Wroclaw (Poland) and the Glass Museum in Rheinbach ( Germany).

With creativity at the fore Chester’s Glass recently teamed up with award winning garden designer Jody Lidgard – together they created the Montessori Centenary Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show – winning yet another Gold medal. Jody will be opening a show garden in Norfolk where Chester’s Glass can be seen in a variety of garden settings. Article 1 - Chester’s Glass and Montessori GOLD

Chester’s Glass story Living in Lower Silesia, and sharing a passion for the arts (and travel) David and Doro have been great friends with Paweł and Kasia Borowski for many years. Glasstudio Borowski were great supporters of David and Doro’s not-for-profit organisation, promoting tourism in Polish, Lower Silesia.

When Dee and Barrie visited David’s UK studio it was impossible to ignore the wonderful Borowski glass on display and only natural that the topic of conversation detoured to a shared love of glass. David then invited Dee and Barrie to their home in Poland where Dee was able to fulfil one of her life’s ambitions – glass-blowing. In the following weeks the four friends, alongside the artists at Glasstudio Borowski, had planned their journey to bring the art of Borowski glass to the UK and at the same time introduce the UK to beautiful Lower Silesia – the land of summer palaces – a partnership called Chester’s Glass.

So what can you expect from a partnership founded on a shared passion of glass, Lower Silesia and named after a camel? Simple: vibrant, distinct, world-renowned art, showcased by creative, enthusiastic people that love what they do, have a lot of fun doing it, and where the glass is always the centrepiece.

The Montessori Centenary Children’s Garden wins a GOLD medal at Chelsea Flower Show The garden was created for the Montessori Centre International (MCI), which provides training to those interested in applying Montessori principles to early years’ education. It celebrates the work of Montessori St Nicholas and commemorates 100 years of Montessori in the UK. Like the Montessori teaching method, the garden is child-led yet future-driven, offering an engaging space to nurture children, teaching them about the natural world set alongside technology: the future of horticulture.

There are two greenhouses featured in the garden: one inspired by the Walipini designs - a sunken Victorian greenhouse – and another showcasing hydroponic technology, set among living walls, edible walls and an interactive wildlife pond area.

Beautiful glass decorates the garden provided from the Borowski Collection and brought to the UK by Chester’s Glass. Wonderful water spouts designed and created by Stani Jan Borowski and supported by unique ‘organic’ railing features, glass water reeds and a menagerie of wonderful Borowski outdoor glass animals. Meet the artistsThe Borowski artists demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship, using old, demanding skills that only a handful of glass manufacturers now possess, alongside developing their own techniques, which enables the studio to realise its challenging visions and experiment with new ideas.

STANISŁAW BOROWSKIStanislaw Borowski is an artist who has gained international recognition for his engraved glass sculptures. In 1990 he founded „Glasstudio Borowski“. His two sons Pawel and Stani Jan followed in their father’s footsteps as glass artists.

In the 1970s Stanislaw Borowski had already gained international respect and recognition with his engravings and sculptures. Numerous masterpieces created by him are now exhibited in renowned international galleries, museums and private collections. In 1990 he laid the foundation for today’s Borowski Glass Studio which ranks among the most acclaimed artistic glass studios in the world.

STANI JAN BOROWSKIStani Jan Borowski is a true artist. In addition to his paintings and sculptures, made from bronze, metal and glass, he creates many unique glass sculptures as well as fantastic creations for the Outdoor Art collection.

STANISŁAW BOROWSKIPawel Borowski is a versatile glass artist and head of the studio Borowski manufacturing. In addition to his individual masterpieces he has been seminal for the design and creation of the Outdoor Art collection.

The Polish connectionIn the south-west corner of Poland, nestled snugly against the German and Czech borders, lies one of the best-kept secrets in Europe. Lower Silesia’s history dates back 7,000 years, when the first nomadic people lived in caves and primitive chalets. Today, the region boasts one of the highest concentrations of palaces and castles in Europe; according to the Polish Tourism Organisation, one in four Polish mansions, palaces or castles is located in the Lower Silesia region.

But despite its vast forests, snowy peaks, picturesque villages and historic towns, Lower Silesia remains relatively undiscovered. Seen by the rich as a safe haven, it’s common to see sumptuous mansions and custom-built summer houses, complete with baths, terraces, ballrooms and extensive gardens, snuggled in the unspoilt countryside. While over the centuries, countless aristocrats have constructed an intriguing skyline, punctuated with imposing castles and fortresses that still stand till this day.

An enchanting region in Poland, it’s said that everyone’s hiding something in Lower Silesia, and for the most part, it’s Borowski glass. As the home of Glasstudio Borowski, these unique glass masterpieces are the artwork of choice for the rich and noble. Seen on display in their opulent homes across the region, each piece captures the scenic beauty of its surrounding environment and radiates it back into its palatial surroundings.

About ‘Chester the camel’On the 7 September 2013, David and Doro married in an unusual circus themed wedding in their home village of Lower Silesia, not far from Glasstudio Borowski. An artistic affair, befitting the two creatives, it had everything from a big top to a camel. But after the toasts were done, and the bride’s bouquet tossed, all the guests left for home… all except one.

With the event managers due to retire, Chester the camel found a new home with the newlyweds and quickly became something of a tourist attraction in the local village. A symbol for life in Lower Silesia, Chester became the figure head of David and Doro’s charity, ‘Lower Silesia Country Life’, a not-for-profit organisation that promoted the beautiful region of a thousand palaces.

Whether making public appearances, taking part in the Easter story celebrations or starring in the Christmas Nativity, Chester led a long, rich and fulfilled life, and everyone in and around Lower Silesia knew his name.

Sadly, Chester suffered ill health early in 2017 and passed away, but his legacy lives on as the face of Lower Silesia, home to Glasstudio Borowski, it seemed only fitting that his spirit lives on through Chester’s Glass.
