FRÉDÉRIC DEMERS
Recognized by his peers as “one of Canada’s leading trumpet and cornet
players” (the U.S.‐based International Trumpet Guild), Frédéric Demers has
performed as a soloist with a variety of musical ensembles. His
accomplishments include four premieres of works and the solo disc
Carnaval et Concertos (2008) for soloist playing several trumpets, and large
ensemble.
Chamber music is a passion for Mr. Demers, who has been a founding
member of a number of musical ensembles. He performs with among
others the trio Débonnaire, alongside organist Catherine Todorovski in a
trumpet‐organ duo, and as part of both the brass quintet Impact and the
dynamic contemporary‐music sextet Magnitude6. The theatrical concert 8
trompettes et 1 piano, with staging by Anne Millaire and performed by
pianist Jacynthe Riverin and Mr. Demers himself, has been another
manifestation of that passion.
As a freelancer, Frédéric Demers has played with numerous symphony orchestras in Québec, including the
Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and the Orchestre Métropolitain, and participated in a six‐concert tour
in Germany with the Netherlands Bach Society baroque orchestra.
Furthermore, the multimedia concert Fred Piston Symphonizes with 7 Trumpets, produced by Mr. Demers
and staged in different adaptations in several provinces to over 40,000 youngsters, speaks to his involvement
with the young. Initially presented as a solo, then as a coproduction with Jeunesses Musicales of Canada, the
concert today is in its third version – for soloist and orchestra – which was created in collaboration with
writer‐director Mario Boivin.
After he earned his doctorate in cornet performance from the Université de Montréal, Frédéric Demers was
hired as a trumpet teacher at numerous educational establishments, including, in 2008, the Conservatoire de
musique de Val‐d’Or, where he continues to teach today.
